Why doesn't he just admit it was about the money, and he knew the Vikings couldn't afford to pay him more after they paid Cousins?
I don't know what the true reason was, but I do know that it boiled over after the playoff loss to the 49ers and then he had an exit interview with the team where he said he did not intend to play for the Vikings again. If it were about the money, he would not have showed up to practice for the Bills before getting paid. Given how quickly things with the Bills ended which was certainly not about money, it is obvious it has to do with something else.
A 25% salary increase in 2020 and an increase of 7.7 million more in guarantees in 2021 is pretty significant. It got his salary over Thielen's and closer to top 5 money. This wasn't just out of the goodness of their own hearts either, it was likely something at least talked about before the trade.
Then he forces another trade and Houston gives him a raise and allows him to hit free agency in 2025. Again, likely talked about before the trade.
There is a reason he sent the tweet that forced his way out the day Kirk was made the highest paid player in the league. It is always about the money in the end.
