Not cost as in money, cost or expense as in the bigger picture. Would have signing a few of the older vets been wise for the future of this D and the team overall? Part of the core of D players we've been talking about made their run and came up short. A 6 year run.

I don't buy that there wasn't a real plan and it doesn't matter what we think because they decided to blow it up and build another D. One thing we can agree on for sure is that it didn't work out. In the first season of the rebuild of our D it failed spectacularly and the unit gave up an average of 30 points a game. Obviously they took a risk with the amount of defensive players they replaced but keep in mind that nobody, and I mean NOBODY, could've predicted Covid, best starting DE (Hunter) getting injured, our big free agent DT signing (Pierce) opting out, starting LB (Barr) injured and lost for the season, 2 starting CBs (Hill and Hughes) injured and out after the 5th or 6th game. Without Hunter, Pierce and 3 starters go down early in the season didn't help the defensive rebuild at all. It was very hard to watch this team last year when the D took to the field. The first year of the D rebuild didn't get off to astounding start.

You say the D would've been below average even if it was 100% healthy in 2020 huh? OK, everyone is entitled to their opinion but to back it up by claiming Barr isn't a big upgrade over Eric Wilson when he only played two games and that Hill/Hughes wouldn't of made the secondary better is stretching it a bit IMO. Yes Holton Hill struggled in the first two games allowing 11 of 15 targets to be completed but rebounded in the following games until he was lost for the season with a foot injury. As for Hughes, he was lost for the season as well. You, me and everyone else have no idea if Hill and Hughes could have improved our secondary last season.......they never were healthy enough to play the entire year. Both only played something like 4 games apiece.                   

I do think the defenders we let go was the right move. That group ran its course. We were aging and reached our peak 49ers ran us over. Eagles did in 2017 too.

The problem is letting them go all at once instead of a little at a time. We should had slowly started letting guys go a few at a time replacing one or two at a time IMO. This process should have started in after 2018 instead of all 6 in one off-season.

Keeping them would not have made us any better than having Cousins up to this point, but the Cousins problem came with doubling down on that second contract.

Rooster comes to Crow next year. That is why I think we need to trade him. See he keeps doing these short deals so he stays a top paid guy. Next year that cap hit is going to hurt. This year we can be good but we have to remember we have a lot of 1 year deals.

If he absorbs 20 percent of the cap next year we likely will be in the same position as last year. So in my opinion anything outside of a Super Bowl win we need to move on from Cousins. Because as the cap moves up he will demand more and more money keeping us in the same position.

Obviously best case is we win it all then I don't care. But let's say we make it to NFC Championship game but lose. I would then trade him, his value would be high and we could build a stacked young roster. Worse case he plays well we fall short, but they get suckered into paying him again and he falls off and we stuck with a 35 year old QB on a bloated contract for 3 more years. Who won't bring one home.

I don't know I don't think getting Yannick and franchise tagging Harris meant we wasn't rebuilding the defense. I think that was more trying to save face and jobs. I think they were afraid of the bottom falling out and we winning like 4 games. So they made them moves so they could say to the Wilfs see we not completely trash we close to average so give us another year. It's like we half rebuilding but at the same time going all in at the same time.

 I don't believe in tanking but retooling. But if you get rid of that many guys all at once you bound to fall off. So if it was a retool not rebuild you should have let like one or two go at a time over a few years time. Where it would have been easier to refill a few spots each year and stay strong on defense.

I think it was just signing 2 good players for the starting lineup. Saving face and jobs......not so much.

Whatever the case may be we got ourselves a versatile CB who is familiar with our D. He can play the slot or outside in a pinch.

We just drafted Patrick Jones with the 3rd rounder from the Ravens and still have a conditional 2022 5th. How is that getting fleeced??
