Anyway.... I'm still excited about Mond, the key will be for Rick to put pieces around him who fit him, including the right coaching staff (which I'm afraid Zimmy is not for a QB like Mond). A QB like Mond requires thinking outside the box to get the most out of him. Like Harbaugh did with Kaep as an example.

Not exactly, my opinion on Mills was based on numerous evaluations from people I trust saying "do NOT take Mills".

I wasn't really that high on either QB but I thought Mond had the biggest upside of the 2. Definitely not convinced he'll ever play a meaningful down in purple but I'm glad it's him getting the chance.

If we compare Kellen Mond to Justin Fields on paper, Fields wins hands down. Fields is an accurate passer with a good arm and the ability to run. His stats were outstanding, and he didn't make many mistakes. When given the time, Fields was as good as they come, but he likely won't have an offensive line that is hand picked and recruited to over-match opponents like he did in college. The NFL often levels the playing field for quarterbacks far better than college football.

Is Justin Fields the obvious better player, or is he a paper tiger? Is Mond an also-ran, or can he be the real deal. Both quarterbacks could do well in the NFL, or both may falter. On paper, Justin Fields is the better player, but fortunately for Kellen Mond, football is played on turf.

Mond also gets a year (or two) to develop as a backup. That's something Fields won't see, and I maintain that redshirting for a year is probably one of the best things you can do for a young QB... The problem is that Chicago will do what every other bad team does in that situation... Fields will be starting much sooner than he probably should be.

How much sooner? Do ya think Nagy and the Bears will push him into live games because they used a lot of draft capital on Fields. They still have Dalton and Foles on the roster.

All I'm looking for out of Mond for now is does he at least look like he wants to play. Could make for an interesting preseason. Unlike the previous backup who looked like he was just cashing checks. Even when he got his chance in the regular season final once. Be more like that other guy Reignman and I liked so much and less like the uninteresting less talented Cousins clone we had.
That is all he needs to do now. Be a better backup.

4 people voted for the "next franchise QB" option, so I guess that's who he's arguing against... but it's pretty clear the majority are open-minded to possible outcomes for Mond.
