Uncle, your analysis is well done. In hindsight, we would not take Hughes. And in hindsight, I'm glad we took O'Neill. Trading down at #94 didn't work out so well either. Cappa is more valuable than Holmes. Trading out of the 3rd for more picks does not seem like a strategy that works - especially if you think you are close to winning a Super Bowl like they thought in 2018.
So we could have went with this:
2018 Draft
#52 (from BAL) - OT Brian O'Neill
#62 - CB Carlton Davis
#125 (from BAL) - DT Maurice Hurst (w/ the extra pick in the trade down w/ Baltimore we could have taken a falling Maurice Hurst)
2019 Draft
#53 (from BAL) - OL Nate Davis
If we trade down with Baltimore from #30 to #52 in 2018, with both of our 2nd Rd picks we could have picked up O'Neill and Carton Davis both, and then picked up Nate Davis in 2019 (who we did have pre-Draft interest in), was selected by TN and has played really well on the interior for them and would fit our wide zone scheme. The icing on the cake would probably be taking Maurice Hurst in the 4th with the extra 2018 pick in the 4th - the Vikes have shown that they throw darts with their "free" picks from trade downs and I could have seen the Vikes taking him there, and he's played decent for the Raiders (surprised he was cut honestly) and would have solved our 3T problem.
If Baltimore would have offered us the same trade-down scenario at #30 they gave Philly at #32, we could have been better off vs just taking Hughes at #30.
We should have just drafted Lamar Jackson.
