There are serious questions for Rick if he really liked Fields and wouldn't budge on next year's first though. For Parsons or one of the CBs sure, don't do it, but for your QBOTF? That is a really small price to pay.

Initially I thought the Wilfs instructed him to stay the course with Cousins, but clearly he had permission to go get the QB of the future. But if he and the scouts really loved Fields, you'd think they'd be more serious with their offer (a 3rd and a 4th to move up to #8 was clearly not going to do it). He may come to regret this decision if he pans out with the Bears...

to be clear.... I'm not the biggest fan of Fields.....

however, I agree with you and whosk.... IF Rick identified Fields as our franchise QB (another one....) to the point that he felt strongly enough about Fields to make an attempt to trade into the top 10 to pick him....... then yes, at that point, you do what it takes to get your QBOTF....... but you know..... Rick outsmarts everyone...... all these other teams like the Eagles, Chiefs, etc....... they don't know sh*t.... Rick does......

Two 1st rounders you say. That's a huge gamble! Ryan Tannehill was picked 8th so I'll start there. That's a huge commitment to pick a QB in the top 10. You're banking on him to be you're franchise QB right there! You draft a QB that high and you expect him to run the offense for the foreseeable future!! I know Miami didn't trade up for this pick but you mentioned coin-flip. Peyton Manning/Ryan Leaf. What if Fields turns out to be a Ryan Tannehill? I'm well aware that Fields is more mobile than Tannehill but you better get that ROI regardless of what kind of QB you use that high pick on. Remember the Jared Goff trade? Coin-flip is exactly what a draft is in a nutshell when it comes to drafting a 1st round QB.
