Monds pick changes....

Mond surprised me too, because I thought they had no interest in a backup who posed even a "fan favoritism" threat to Cousins. I'm not sure it is an endorsement of Spielman's job security yet..

I kind of suspect there is a contract management aspect to it. Cousins got his initial contract here and his 2020 extension with pretty much all he wanted: fully guaranteed, relatively short term. He's routing this front office at the bargaining table, and why? Because they have nothing except him, and Cousins knows it. It may well be that Spielman still believes Cousins will play here into his late 30s, but wants a bit of leverage next time they talk contract, at least to stretch the terms out or something.

If they trade him it's a 10 million dollar dead cap hit and I think the trading team would have a extension in place to complete the deal, but we might have to chip in a few dollars to help make the trade happen. Cousins might be willing to take less to complete the deal knowing it could mean more money in his pocket long term. There's no guarantee that he will have any team interested in him in 2023 so by taking say 30-35 million in '22, '23 & '24 he actually makes more guaranteed in the long run.

The pick changes nothing. At least not this year. Since 1990 there have been 156 QB's taken in the first 3 rounds of the draft. 10 have won Super Bowls. 6 1st round picks, 2 2 round picks and 2 3rd round picks. Until he plays, we have no idea what he will do.

I agree, I will say I think at worst he will be a TJack, but has a chance to be much better than that and  good. He can run is 21 and has a strong arm. He get's a year to learn maybe 2.

If Cousins takes us to the playoffs and loses early imagine the trade return we will get. I have a feeling he will start maybe next year 2 years tops. We can trade Kirk pay some of the salary and save cash. I have seen teams agree to pay part of it like the Teddy deal. I have a feeling Mond turns out for us.

He is 21yrs old, he needs to work on his mechanics that is it though he has talent and upside. I knew we was taken a QB early this draft my gut said whoever it was Mond, Newman who didn't even get drafted, Trask. I just came in the draft thinking we was going to stumble on a QB. We have had bad luck with injuries and things with QBs like Culpepper Teddy I feel we are due for a QB break. Cousins will be gone within 2 yrs and Mond will be starting.

If I am wrong and he disappoints the risk was worth it. We didn't take him in the first mortgaging the future so we can still draft one soon if he doesn't development. This a win win risk. We still have Kirk to keep us playoff bound hopefully, right now and can work on the future all at the same time. Poetry and this the type of move that can open our future up.

Wow with our weapons if we hit on Mond and have him on a rookie deal with cap space things can open up for a real run. Going to be interesting to see what happens, but this gives us another path to potentially get excited about in a few years. 

Kap on style yes, I said that as a example of level of play TJack/ Teddy level if he becomes a alright starter a few years and then becomes a top backup. That is his floor. Teddy/ TJack at worst or better. So it is worth a risk in RD3.

I think Mond is a better Joe Webb. A way better version so it doesn't have to be a bad thing. If he would stop holding his elbows out and not be so mechanical he has a solid chance.

The tools are there 4 year starter in the SEC, good kid, athletic, live arm. He just needs some polish and work on not being so robotic in the pocket. Those are things you can work on and he goes through progressions I like that.
