I will state flat-out that I'm overanalyzing things but the more I think about it the less I like where Minnesota is sitting at the moment. There are several inflection points and many variables but here is what I'm projecting will happen Thorsday eve:
3. 9ers-1 of "The 3", i.e. Fields/Lance/Jones
4. Falcons-Traded to Team X for second of "The 3"
5. Bengals-Kyle Pitts or trade w/Dallas who takes Pitts
6. Dolphins-Ja'Mar Chase
7. Lions-Traded to Team Y for last of "The 3"
8. Panthers-Sewell
9. Bronocs-Parsons, or if they trade with Atlanta the Falcons still Parsons or if they trade with Cincinnati the Bengals take Slater
10. Cowboys-CB1, or Slater if Cincinnati picks here
11. Giants-Slater
12. Eagles-Bama WR1
13. Chargers-Darrisaw
14. Vikings-If they can't trade down it's AVT vs. Paye/Phillips vs. Bama WR2 vs. CB2
Another way to look at it is 5 QBs, Pitts, Sewell, Chase, Parsons, Slater, Bama WR1, CB1 and Darrisaw are all off the Board by 14.
For arguments sake let's not worry about which QB goes where and focus more on what happens if they're all gone by 14? If Parsons AND the OTs are gone Minnesota is staring at 1 of Smith/Waddle and 1 of Surtain/Horn, Paye/Phillips (assuming Phillips is even on their Board, which is no given with his medical history) and AVT.
Who needs a Bama WR or CB2 bad enough to offer Rick a reasonable trade down package? That's where my panic starts to set in. I like AVT plenty, but he doesn't address the glaring hole at LT. If they can't trade down and have to bite the bullet and pick Vera-Tucker (or say BPA at WR or CB or DE) do they gamble on Little making it to the 3rd? Do they find the money to sign Schwartz? Do they really think Cleveland vs. Hill for LT is a good idea? Would they move O'Neill and take a chance on Udoh vs. Hill for RT?
Something unforeseen happening before #14 is almost a given, though with the Raiders picking after Minnesota and Jerruh's son appearing to be able to save him from himself I'm having a hard time figuring out where the WTF moment comes from. If it does happen and Darrisaw makes it 14 (or maybe even Slater, a guy can dream, right) then the world is right again. If my scenario plays out and Rick can't trade down then I'll need to start upping the dosage on my meds.
Good thing I'm taking Friday off! Got a bad feeling I'm gonna be up late Thursday crying in my beer.
