So as long as you sign someone cheap to be a starter and they "flop" it's no big deal. Actually it's a big deal. If you know anything about Woods he has never been anywhere near good. He was serviceable at best. What just happened was the Vikings just signed a lesser FS than they had. In my world that's the wrong direction to improve an already bad secondary.
See for most knowledgeable fans to get excited you need to sign players that aren't bottom feeders. So far that's what they have gotten. Even if 1 of the 1 year players actually has a good year they will be gone. Look ahead any you will know why I say that. Just remember ("we're") they're all set with these moves. I've read it here already. Zimmer will turn all these low tier FA into pro bowl material just like all his hand picked guys they replaced.
Honestly was never a Harris guy, liked him for depth and spot starts when he was on his rookie contract because he was cheap. Andrew Sendejo was a better FS and that's saying something because he was a liability back there. Woods, Peterson & whoever else we sign doesn't need to be a pro bowler they just need to do their job.
Problem is Harris was and is better. Ask a Cowboy fan how much of a liability Woods was and ask Cardinal fans how far Peterson has fallen from his glory days. They need more than that to improve. Peterson at this point is just name recognition.
Here is what was said by Bleacher Report before FA started.
Peterson has a projected market value of $10.4 million annually.
Here's the problem, though. Peterson will turn 31 in July and is no longer the same lockdown defender he was a few years ago. In 2020, Peterson allowed an opposing passer rating of 98.2. In 2019, he allowed an opposing passer rating of 99.2. He didn't make the Pro Bowl in either of those campaigns.
Peterson should still be a starting-caliber cornerback, and he may be a future Hall of Famer. However, he appears to be past his prime. Someone, though, will pay Peterson like the player he was rather than the player he is now.

I'm not saying bad teams don't have individual talent but the Cowboys literally had a rookie that showed promise and 1 linebacker and not much else. People that are getting excited that our secondary and defense as a whole will now be fixed and some think a top 5 d again are just setting themselves up for disappointment.
The fact is Minnesota is trying patch work with low budget rentals and over their prime vets. For 2 years straight all that have come from FA is castoffs no one else wanted.
