Love Lance but qb is not realistic and he'll be long gone by 14. I think Fields will be there and I dont want him. He's gonna fall IMO. Gonna be an interesting night!

I assume Monk is a typo and you mean Mond? There is zero chance he is around in the fourth, he'll be the first outside the Big 5 to go. Very late first through mid-second.
If Newman is around in the fourth, it's because his stock continues to plummet and he ends up a sixth to UDFA-it happens to one surprising guy every year, and Newman has issues. He sat out a year, he was awful at the Senior Bowl, he is far from a finished product. No, I want no part of him.

Trask and Mills if you are looking 3-4.

Later than that? Feleipe Franks, Peyton Ramsey, Sam Ehrlinger...Shane Buechele... nobody really exciting and guys who would have to work hard to beat out Browning, who I think is the guy they are hoping seizes the job if they can't come away with a better prospect this weekend.

Yup, if we want Kellen Mond, we essentially have to hope he falls in to the mid-late 2nd and then we also need to move up to land him. The chance he makes it past the Bears in round 2 seems incredibly unlikely.

I actually think you're right about Newman, I feel like he is overvalued right now and shouldn't be in the discussion with Mond/Trask/Mills as a tier 2 QB. I wouldn't be surprised to see Newman last to the 5th or 6th round.

I don't personally see Kirk being the guy to get us a ring, and I don't like that this guy won't take a discount either. I don't begrudge him his rights, but I don't see how it has helped my team either. Honestly, I'm of the belief that any QB needs a red shirt year, so I'd take a QB if the right one fell.

Back to Kirk, barring a catastrophic injury or a massive step backwards, he will be very tradeable next season if said pick looks promising.

A trade-back to the 20s or end of round 1. Not having a 2nd round pick hurts, we need two starting lineman out of this draft. With Sewell/Slater likely to be gone, the value/needs don’t match up well for us at 14.

I like Mond, I had him as a sleeper candidate when no one was talking about him. But he's gained popularity, Chris Simms being the first major media personality to push his name with the other top QBs in the draft. Simms has him ranked as his 4th QB, ahead of both Justin Fields and Mac Jones. I really don't agree with the Fields assessment, don't know why he has him so low. But other's have been on the Mond bandwagon as well. JT O'Sullivan, former Viking, has a popular youtube channel where he breaks down film of most of the QBs in the draft, and he has Mond ranked 5th ahead of Mac Jones as well.

He was highly recruited out of high school. He's got a really big arm, impressive velocity on his throws. He's athletic, although IMO frustratingly doesn't always use his athleticism. He's very much a pocket passer, very patient in the pocket, and like I said, doesn't use his legs as often as I believe he should. He throws the ball with anticipation, excels attacking the middle of the field, but throws a ton of pretty deep balls. A lot of his issues are mostly mechanical, footwork, a little stiff in the upper body, etc, and it can lead to some timing and accuracy issues.

I personally would take a chance on him if we could in the 2nd, but I wouldn't give up a ton to get him either. There's a lot of buzz around him now though, most of the online draft community believe he'll be the 6th QB off the board, and some are predicting him to sneak into the bottom of the 1st. That's too high for my taste, but I think he's certainly an interesting prospect. For me personally, I would put Lawerence/Fields/Wilson/Lance all as elite top 10 type guys, Jones as like a bottom first, early 2nd, and then Mond and Trask in the 2nd. I actually think Trask is a bit underrated lately as well, he was usually rated as a 2nd round guy early in the draft season, and he's slipped to like a 3rd/4th rounder, where I actually think he's worth taking a shot in the 2nd.

Mills and mond are my 2 guys I’m hoping we land for one of them in third round. It’s most likely mills as mond will be gone most likely. Not a fan of trask. Mills has a chance of being a franchise qb but definitely needs a red shirt year and then be eased into starting qb. He matches up with a timeline of kirks contract. He has the physical tools, just needs to learn and refine them.

I would take Fields in an instance. When have teh Vikings been on the clock with a top QB sitting there?

Zone Coverage: Forget Arm Length, Alijah Vera-Tucker Is A Tackle

You’ve probably heard a lot about arm length in this draft cycle.

On average, offensive tackles have about 34″ arms, guards have about 33″ arms, and centers have about 32.5″ arms. That couple-inch difference doesn’t seem like much, but reach can have a huge impact on the outcome of a given play. Like in boxing, whoever has the reach advantage gets to control the terms of engagement. The 2021 draft class has a lot of short-armed offensive linemen at the top. On Arif Hasan’s consensus big board, there are eight offensive linemen ranked in the top 40.

Here are their arm lengths:

As you can see, most of these players are below average in this category. You may notice that Alijah Vera-Tucker stands out. Vera-Tucker played guard for his first two years and tackle last year but has below-average arms for both positions. For this reason, many list him as an interior player. Teams might do this too — the Minnesota Vikings have a long history of taking guys who played tackle in college and moving them to guard.

There are a lot of reasons to take a college tackle and move them to guard. Arm length is one of them, but it isn’t sufficient on its own to justify that move. Not only are there ways to overcome pass rushers who have a length advantage on you, but there are also better vectors by which to make that decision.

EVALUATING ALIJAH VERA-TUCKER
You’ve probably heard some glowing reviews about Vera-Tucker by now. For former Viking Ben Leber and draft veteran Dane Brugler, he’s the No. 1 offensive lineman on the board, position be damned. He has excellent balance and footwork, his athletic profile is fascinating, and his tape confirms it. His footwork, in particular, is the most exciting.
