With The 14th Pick, Your Minnesota Vikings Select...

Just throwin' this out there as food for thought: with the Ravens trading Orlando Brown Jr to the Chiefs, they now have picks #27 and #31 in the 1st Rd, no 2nd Rd picks, and two picks at the end of Rds 3, 4 & 5. Essentially, they set themselves up to move-up from #27, and then possibly back from #31 to recoup a little.

If the Ravens wanted to move up all the way to #14, it would be approx 109 draft pts, and since they don't have a 2nd Rd pick, they could use one of their extra picks in the 3rd, 4th and a 2022 3rd Rd pick. With the Vikings essentially then having three picks in Round 3 and five picks in Round 4, that would be more than enough ammunition to get back into the 2nd Rd, while giving us an extra Day 2 pick in 2022.

It could look like this:

Baltimore trades up to #14...

Vikings receive:
Pick #27 (Rd 1): 216 pts
Pick #104 (Rd 3): 38 pts
Pick #131 (Rd 4): 20 pts
Pick #184 (Rd 5): 6 pts
2022 3rd Rd pick: 38 pts (assuming same value as 2021)
Total is 318 pts

Ravens receive:
Pick #14 (Rd 1): 325 pts

Seattle has 3 picks in the entire draft, nothing in the 1st Rd, 1 pick in the 2nd (#56), a 4th and 7th. There's a strong possibility they will listen to any offer to trade down from their 2nd Rd pick (#56) to acquire more mid-rd picks. The Vikings are now armed with a bunch of Rd 3, 4 & 5 ammunition and it could work out well for both sides - Vikes move up for a strong player in Rd 2 and Seattle gets more picks.

That could look like this....

Pick #56 (Rd 2) - 98 pts

Seattle receives
Pick #78 (Rd 3) - 59 pts
Pick #125 (Rd 4) - 23 pts
Pick #143 (Rd 4) - 16 pts

11 total picks; essentially 4 in the Top 100 (or just outside) and still 3 picks early on Day 3 in Round 4. The 4 picks in the Top 100 given you solid prospects that you bank on contributing in Year 1 and the early Day 3 picks given you depth pieces, along with a bit of late Round 4/Round 5 "fodder" to trade down and acquire late Day 3 picks that Rick loves to do.

While this means you miss on Sewell, Slater, Darrisaw and AVT in Round 1, you use the #27 and #56 picks to take the best OT/DE players in whatever combination you want.

I have a question

Is everyone ready for Rick to accumulate all the A grades post-draft?

After looking at what picks we would have I love this. It was my initial plan early this offseason to trade back and recoup our 2nd rounder. Made a thread about it. We do have several needs this would address that. As long as 2 of our top 3 picks was OL and 1 DE this would be excellent.

What would be the motivation for Baltimore to trade all that draft capital to move to 14?

If Darrisaw is there and Vikes trade back I will lose it.

DeVonta Smith/J Waddle falls or Jaelen Phillips if they're comfortable with medicals...

Keep in mind they are also in "win now" mode w/ Jackson his 4th yr and last "real cheap" yr before hi more expensive 5th yr option kicks in and then an extension after that, so they shouldn't be as interested in the extra picks in Rd 3, 4 & 5 and can afford to part with them to move up in the 1st for a more impact player. While R Bateman may be there at #27 along with K Toney, they're not Smith or Waddle. 

Also, this is just another trade-down scenario to ponder as we wait until Day 1 on Thurs...

I don't think the Ravens will be moving up for a tackle, as they just paid Ronnie Stanley and it was reported today that they are planning to sign Alejandro Villaneuva as their RT. From what I've heard, their top target is WR, and if they're moving up, it'd be for a receiver.
