Where exactly did Wonnum play in our D? I like this guy.

He played 44% of the defensive snaps in a reserve role in 2020 behind Odenigbo & Holmes and he showed flashes - his strip-sack of Aaron Rodgers in the road win at Green Bay sealed that win. During the MNF game at Chicago, he had a solid game...this is per a FOX Sports article, "...played 38 of Minnesota’s 50 defensive snaps (56%) — the fourth time in five weeks he’s been on the field for over half of the plays. Wonnum was credited with two tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack and a game-high three quarterback hits. According to Pro Football Focus, 20 of Wonnum’s 38 snaps were in pass-rushing situations. The rookie tallied five pressures in those 20 snaps. Now that’s productivity. Even more impressive, Wonnum played the third-most snaps among defensive ends, as he’s still a backup. Jaylyn Holmes (78%) and Ifeadi Odenigbo (76%) are holding on to their starting roles … for now" (link).

I'm going to assume that the majority of Wonnum's defensive snaps came at the DE position vs inside at DT.

Also, he played 30% of the ST snaps, blocking a FG in the home game vs Carolina.

Right now, I don't think we have a clear starting RDE opposite Hunter - if we don't bring in anybody else, it's a TC battle between Weatherly, Wonnum, Holmes & Patrick Jones II and perhaps Mata'Afa & J Robinson. The battle for the starting OL spots and the battle for RDE opposite Hunter will probably be the TC battles most closely watched.

In the base 4-man front defense, Hunter is the LDE and Wonnum would be the RDE (ESPN also has this listed on their Vikings depth chart - link). I do think Hunter shifts all over the place depending on the game situation, and that's why they like players who can play inside/outside as they do like the shift-up the looks, and that's also why Everson was effective is because he had that versatility.

I'd say we're one injury away from a really bad time at the a few positions: WR, DE, CB, and OG. I'm probably more comfortable at DE in that I do think Wonnum will take some steps forward, but outside of that, I think some smart FA signings in those areas to get us some competent play would be wise. No need to go all out, but there should be plenty of competent vets we can bring in for near the league minimum to shore up those spots.

Man I hope all of you are right. Call me paranoid but two years ago we picked a "sure-fire" starting OL in round 1 and then fans were delighted that we came back and got a "steal" in round 4 of an OG that many people loved and thought would go at least a round earlier. There were a lot of predictions, even "guarantees" that Dru Samia would be a Day 1 starter, too.

I'm always leery of "steals". The rest of the league is not (at least universally) a bunch of idiots now saying, "Darn, we all forgot about Wyatt Davis! That Spielman always catches our mistakes!!" Davis fell for some reason and we have to hope it is correctable.

I agree. We got RB's with good hands TE and a slew of body's at WR now. I didn't see it on draft day when they kept listing our need as WR on the draft tracker. Seemed like we had bigger holes to fill. I liked how they drafted just fine. If not so much the I know about who at least where by position.

If being a Viking fan was easy ~ everyone would do it.

It's not the case with us, although you could argue that we would run more 3-WR if we had someone better. Bisi is reliable, but he's more of a possession WR than a field stretcher. Beebe is alright but "more fast than quick" and he's been injured a couple times and had fumbles...

I think we're hampered by the lack of a threatening #3 WR, and we're going to be hurting if Thielen or Jefferson misses much time. Maybe Smith-Marsette can change that, but we've been trying 5th-7th round picks for WR for some times with minimal success.

What do you think Klint Kubiak will do?

I haven't heard much on here about any possible tweeks to our offense.

Interesting take because to me Beebe is more quick than fast. He lacks long speed, Moss is fast this new guy Kene Nwangwu is fast. A guy like Edelman is quick, his style and game is closer to a Edleman or Amendola with quickness. Even though he is not on a Edleman level. I am talking in terms of style of play.
