How many of you have seen the message for guests of this community? Here it is...

Decent, mature, and moderated - more relatable than what most of social media has to offer. Yep, that's what we want to be; that's what we've always wanted to be. Now, let's all ask ourselves: What about lately? Has this been a decent and mature place? Civil discourse? In-depth discussion?
We have to do better. We will do better. There have been some discussions going on behind the scenes in recent weeks between the moderators and I as well as some other long-term members here (and MVN). I think it's fair to say, that most of us want to get back to who we are and what we want this community to be for all of us.
Just an FYI: 99% of the moderation here at Purple Pain before this past year was cleaning up spam accounts and pinning/unpinning important threads. It was almost nothing. With that said, things have been different over the last year with the merger ... but also with life topics. For the most part, we've always been able to discuss those things in the appropriate threads and keep that stuff separate. We need to get back to that. Moderators don't enjoy moderating, but we also understand it's necessary to keep the place from becoming an unbearable cesspool. In recent weeks, sometimes, it has felt like that. And we're going to clean it up!
Some of us put in a lot of time and energy into this place (as AlaskanViking has done at MVN), and have for several years, so all of you have a home to talk Vikings Football, other sports, and even life topics. A lot of us OGs really love this community, and I can tell that many of the OGs from MVN do too, by how often you're signing in and contributing. So, to keep this place from totally imploding, we, unfortunately, have to start moderating more. We've been left with no other choice at this point.
The things we're looking closely at moving forward:
- low quality posts (especially repetitive nonsense across several threads)
- personal attacks (name-calling, cussing/blowing up, chasing people around the forum to instigate)
- thread derailment (not every thread needs to turn into the same "Fire! Fire! Fire!" nonsense)
From this point forward, expect these kinds of posts to be deleted and vacations issued (temporary account suspensions). I've spent a lot of time explaining moderation over the last year or so - something that really shouldn't have even had to be done. We have the board rules, but, also, as laidback as we are, it's pretty easy to make a home here. We like to take the hands-off approach with moderation, but a handful here continue to take advantage of that, so, here we are.
In sum: Shape up or ship out. We will NOT allow a few posters to ruin this community.
Do better or don't, but there will be consequences. This is the last warning.
If we see posts that fall into the above categories, they will be edited/deleted immediately. If we find ourselves editing/deleting several of your posts, please expect a temporary account suspension. Generally it'll be a day, then three days, then a week and so on. So if you find yourself not being able to log in, that'd be why. Come back later, hopefully in a better spot and more willing to debate in good faith.
Lastly, moderation is not up for (public) debate. If you have a question/comment/concern regarding moderation, feel free to hit up one of the moderators privately. We're all open to that.
As always,
