Zimmer has by far had more given to him than any other HC the Vikings have had and done absolutely nothing with it. You want to blame covid well I guess only the Vikings suffered the wrath of that. Come on man. Many people predicted this train wreck because of past years. The worst part is next year will be even worse. Since the situation is where it's at we need to suffer a few bad years to get this thing changed around and sitting it out for one more year just puts everything on hold. Get a new GM get a new HC and give them 3 years to turn it around and 2 more with their own thumbprint to see where they take it. It's that bad. I keep tryung to tell people 2023 is the first year this club has a chance.

The Saints' superstar running back also forced five missed tackles and averaged over four yards after contact per rushing attempt in his stunning Christmas Day performance.

Minnesota’s defense had no answers for Kamara & Co. Outside of two Drew Brees interceptions, the highlights for Mike Zimmer’s defense were few and far between. The unit missed more than 10 tackles on the day and awarded Kamara nearly three yards before contact per carry.

Kirk Cousins and the Vikings’ offense went toe-to-toe with the Saints’ offensive attack early but ultimately couldn’t keep the fire going late in the second half. Cousins completed 27-of-41 passes for 291 yards and three touchdowns on his way to what should be a 65.0-plus PFF passing grade. He also took two costly sacks and missed on a handful of key throws in the fourth quarter.

Vikings running back Dalvin Cook averaged 4.9 yards per carry and forced five missed tackles in the contest, but his efforts on the ground weren’t enough to keep Minnesota in the game late.

ROOKIE WATCH
Saints rookies Adam Trautman and Cesar Ruiz both played 25-plus snaps in the game and earned 70.0-plus PFF grades on first review of the broadcast film.

Vikings’ Justin Jefferson caught six passes for 85 yards and earned a 75.0-plus PFF grade on first review. Fellow offensive rookie Ezra Cleveland gave up a strip-sack to Cameron Jordan in the game, but he made up for some of his blunders in pass protection with multiple positively graded plays and few negatively graded plays as a run-blocker.

Rookie cornerbacks Jeff Gladney and Cameron Dantzler earned sub-50.0 PFF coverage grades for the Vikings on PFF’s first review of the game. Gladney missed three tackles and gave up more than 80 yards in coverage. Dantzler allowed two first downs and more than 50 yards in the game.

Like they quit on him when we were 1-5? Remember that nonsense? Yeah, me too. A lot of those guys today were fringe players. I assure you, they weren't quitting on Zimmer, therefore, quitting on themselves/their potential NFL careers. Sometimes guys just suck. Is it that hard to believe? Watch the film.

When I read Zimmer's quote...I thought the very same thing.
Sometimes it's a good thing for a coach to speak their minds.
But IMO...there's a fine line between constructive criticism and crushing criticism.

According to NFL's Next Gen Stats, Kamara scored on all five of his rushes when facing eight or more defenders in the box. Any time the Vikings had seven or fewer defenders in the box, Kamara averaged 7.8 yards per rush, the third-highest mark by a player this season with a minimum of 15 rushes.

Tackling was an issue for a defense that was down three linebackers (Eric Kendricks, Todd Davis and Troy Dye) entering the game. In his four previous meetings against the Vikings, Kamara never rushed for more than 45 yards (3.46 yards per carry on 13 rushes). On Friday, he more than tripled that amount facing a defense without All-Pro Kendricks and perennial Pro Bowl linebacker Anthony Barr.

But depth issues and inexperience were not the catalyst for Minnesota allowing 121 yards after contact on rushes and receptions, according to Zimmer, their most in a game since 2016.

"No, I don't think being young has got anything to do with tackling," Zimmer said. "They manhandled us up front pretty well with the front guys and linebackers, but we didn't tackle. When we had chances, we didn't cover very well today. Defensive backs came off the receivers. It was disappointing.

"We're a little undermanned, but they should play better than that. Really it wasn't so much the six touchdowns, it's more that they just mashed us up front. We couldn't slow them down. It would be 8-yard gain, 7-yard gain. The first touchdown we fitted wrong with the linebackers I believe. It was one of those kind of days."

While the Vikings own one of the NFL's worst run defenses, their inability to pressure opposing quarterbacks also ranks at the bottom of the NFL. Minnesota generated only one pressure on Brees, the fewest by any team in a game since 2016. On the season, the Vikings have generated pressure on 23.3% of dropbacks, which ranks 30th.

The storyline for Minnesota's 2020 defense will be remembered by a mass exodus of nine players in free agency, including five starters, an opt-out with nose tackle Michael Pierce, multiple season-ending injuries to the likes of Danielle Hunter, Anthony Barr and Mike Hughes and a handful of rookies and young players who were forced to play significant roles they weren't ready for.

With the 2020 season over save for one meaningless game at Detroit in Week 17, how might the Vikings turn things around for next season?

"We've got to get Hunter back, we've got to get Pierce here, we've got to get Barr, Kendricks, Pro Bowl players, good players that we have, they need to be back, and then we lost another corner again today," Zimmer said. "If you go back, and honest, I'm not trying to make excuses, it was embarrassing today. We're missing four defensive linemen, we're missing a safety, we're missing three corners, we're missing six linebackers, I believe, from where we started. We're just a little undermanned. That's still no excuse. These guys put on an NFL jersey they've got to play."

Sure.... but GMs and HCs can't suck? Only players right?

That's awfully selective, bc to anyone with any objectivity, this season showed that we have all 3 who suck. GM, HC, and players.

Are we counting Hill and Hughes are big losses too?

Bc the way I see it, the only truly big loss has been Hunter.

Wilson made some plays in Barr's absence.... the CBs haven't been any more or less bad or good as Hill/Hughes.... and the NT is a complete unknown..... to count him as some kind of sure thing as a good starter is awfull ambitious.

It comes down to one.... ONE..... player...... Hunter........
