Ooof, I knew I was on my way to look something up. Because that seems like what I'm doing often after a Vikings game, finding out just how dubious something was. Weird how I never get to research positive things. It smelled like a possible team record. I knew Frazier never gave up that much in a game, so that's a pretty big statement.
Ironically the most yards Frazier had allowed also came to the Saints, in 2011 at 573. I remember that game, it felt very much like this one. We lost 42-20, Brees had 412 yards passing, 5 TD's, and he was pulled in the 3rd quarter or something. I think that was the game we set an NFL record by going 9 straight without recording an INT. We would finally pick off Rex Grossman the following week in Washington when Peterson tore his ACL.
576 total yards was the old team record. Given up in 1962 to the Baltimore Colts. Zimmer is also responsible for the 5th most yards a Vikings team has allowed when he gave up 556 to the Rams in 2018. A Frazier defense only surrendered 500+ the one time. To be fair, it would be much higher than that had Frazier gotten 7 years like Zimmer xD.
Only the 4th time we've given up 50+ in a game, 1st time since Steckel in '84, most since '63 lol. It felt like another Buffaloing, except on national TV on xmas. Vikings!!
Zimmer sets two dubious defensive marks that date to the early 60's and we match a record that stood since 1929. He's out Frazier-ing Les Frazier.
