Interesting article in twin cities.com. Thought I'd post my thoughts here as it relates to Rhett Ellison's Dad accusing the Vikes of toxic leadership and reason why free agents are leaving the team. Claims practices are too physical, reason why so many injuries in offensive line and the Defense loosing its edge and ultimately collapsing. Claims the toxic leadership is still going on and nothing has changed. Says at 5 and 0, Vikes best team in football, then at 5 and 2, Norv Turner resigns which he claims a great loss to team and the sting of the losses still being felt today. He recently took his toxic leadership tweets down.
Pretty negative stuff from this guy. I maintain the loss of free agents is no big deal, except Munerlyn. I don't think Vikes were planning on keeping them and I doubt they were about to shell out all that money for a blocking tight end that his son is. I also see where Cordarrelle wants to stay which shoots holes in Ellison's argument. But, I still feel that Zimmer should be on the hot seat and has this coming year to turn this around or he's gone. Another telling sign is if Rhodes elects not to sign but leaves for free agency. Zim, being the CB whisperer should have the loyalty of these guys. Having Rhodes leave, to me, doesn't look good for Zim And with the Jordy Nelson coverage fiasco at last GB game, I would think the Wilfs are keeping a close eye on Zim. All and all though, I'm not too concerned with this Ellison guy and his hit piece on the Vikes.
The free agents who have left the team have done so because the Vikings haven't offered them a contract (other than Kalil).
Zimmer isn't on any "hot seat" and won't be for the foreseeable future. Rhodes will be signed to an extension, because he has earned it and the Wilf's will sign the check. It doesn't matter who the coach or GM is. If not, he'll be with us at least two more years (option year + franchise tag).
This is how it REALLY happened:
Zimmer: Okay, did you knuckleheads learn anything today?
Newmann/Rhodes: Yes coach, we learned that you know more than we do.
Zimmer: What else?
Rhodes: I learned that despite the fact Terrance is the Granddaddy of CB's, he isn't my coach.
Zimmer: Good. Now get back out there next week and if you ever pull something like this again, you're going to get so tired of me being in your ear that you'll poke your ear drums out.
Newmann/Rhodes: We're already looking for some ear plugs.
