Talking Points
This has to be one of the most frustrating games I have ever watched the Vikings play in recent history.
Too many major mistakes by coaches and players throughout the game. Too many dumb penalties. Yet they found a a way to win at the end and keep there slim playoff hopes alive. You have to give the coaches and players credit at the end for having the resolve to not give up and find a way to win. Having said that I will outline the players that stood out, players that did not show up or played poorly, those that need to be repaced due to poor play, and the best and the dumbest plays and coaching decisions in the game.
Players that stood out
Cousins cluthch performance, finnaly, unfortunately he will also make my dumbest plays list.
Rudolph
Bisi Johnson
Jefferson
Bebee unfortunately he will also make my dumbest plays list
Cook made a lot of tough yards with no guard help today the two stiff guards were unable to open any holes for him and were manhandled all day.
kendricks
Wilson
Wonnum
Players that played poorly or did not show up
Dozier G play was horrible all day. Allowed to much pressure up the middle in the pass game and did not open any holes in the running game
Jones G play was horrible all day. Allowed to much pressure up the middle in the pass game and did not open any holes in the running game
Dye WLB he has been underwelming.
Gladney he is okay stopping the running and tackling but he cant pass defend worth a lick.
Harris he is not earning his money he is always out of position and is not making any plays. He is not earning his money. He should be traded next year
Dantzler any time he makes a hard tackle he seems to be shaken up or acts hurt. Unbelievable. He needs to add some muscle to his frame quickly.
Jones he is not good in coverage, I think I could put a double move on him at my age and catch a ball on him.
Boyd he is not good in coverage, I think I could put a double move on him at my age and catch a ball on him.
Dumbest plays and coaching decisions
Kirk tanglefooot Cousins. He has no pocket presence. He needs to practice securing the ball with both hands when he faces pressure or is about to be tackled'
Spend about an hour in practice each day until he gets it right. Too many fumble turnovers at the QB position
Bebee didnt need to attempt a fair catch there if it was too crowded and he didnt get a good look, back off and let it bounce and hit the ground. You need to make sure that you get the offense the ball in that situation.
OC Kuback not adjusting his play calling in the first half. Trying to run 1st and 2nd down with no results all first half when they were loading the box on defense to stop the run. Mix in pass plays on first and second downs like they did in the 2nd half. He waits too long to adjust his gameplan.
Zimmer calling a terrible defense blitz on 3rd down that allowed a wide open reveiver to score a TD with a DE Odenigbo dropping back to try to cover him. Terrible design.
Zimmer 3rd challange, challanging that first down catch that was clearly a first down not even a close call.
Players that need to be replaced due to poor play
Our G play was bad today. We need to get Ezra back. He is a big improvement.
We need to give Udoh a chance to play at G. He would be an upgrade over Dozier.
Ezra and Udoh at G's have the size and stenghth to halt the interior pressure from top tier larger DT''s in the passing game. They would also give you a better chance to move their man an open up a hole for Cook. Wouldn't that be nice for a change. Cook would have holes to run through instead of being hit at the line of scrimmage.
This is the type of change that would make your O-line competive against top defensive lines as you are starting the playoffs.
Dye WLB he is not getting the job done. Try Davis or Nickerson. They can't be any worse.
Wonnum needs to play more.
Feel free to opine but remember to keep it pithy
