And based on how often NFL GM's are missing, I would say scouting isn't even all that great either. Trubisky ahead of Mahomes? Nuff said. They might as well be throwing darts at a dart board.
I think there is plenty of good scouting going on, I listen to a scout who does a pod and his evals are often spot on, but management does stuff for crazy reasons and the solid scouting gets tossed on the pile.
It is human nature to think "I know/see something that others don't and I can make this daring move and get a big edge!" And sometimes that happens - Chiefs trade up for Mahomes. And sometimes not - Bears mortgage the farm for Trubisky.

That is spot on. People would be shocked at how much work is tossed to the side by GMs from scouts. Drafting is an open ended game.
