That's ownership, management and coaching. They're the people that agreed to pay a QB who for his era was probably worth about 80 to 90 million dollars for 5 years at potentially 150 million dollars for 5 years at a 25 to 45 million dollar clip potentially.
Should he be making 16 to 20 million dollars this season instead of 32 million for this team to win more games this year?
Absolutely. But he's not.
Zimmer is described as that old school, field position, defense and special teams and fundamentals and clock management and shortening the field and restricting and managing the game head coach...
Do you see the defense and special teams and field position issues we have had this year and in other seasons lately and think Zimmer is doing what he's advertised to do?
You get told, "Zimmer is this type of coach, and this type of team has been constructed and coached to do this and this and this" and then we have godawful defense and special teams. We're not getting an old school performance in many games this season, be it good or bad. We're wondering why we are not an offensive minded, pass first team winning games 34-31. Nobody looked at the way this team performed in the last two seasons and thought, "The way we will beat the Dallas Cowboys this year is Kirk Cousins will pass for about 400 yards and 4 touchdowns and he'll get the team downfield on a game winning touchdown drive so we win 34-31."
Zimmer is a huge reason why we are even in positions to need to win games 30ish to 30ish.
This talent on this defense is bottom 5.
Needing to score 34 points a game to win with Hunter, two starting CB's, Barr and Pierce out is not surprising. Zimmer schemed around the deficiencies on talent for a few games, but scheme only holds up so long before a team figures it out and exploits your lack of talent. That is what happened yesterday.
There have been some huge investments in the offense the past couple of seasons, via free agency and the draft, and it struggled to put up 28 points against a terrible Cowboys D. Those investments are why the Vikings have so little depth on D, and the return on those investments just isn't enough to keep this team competitive. Mostly because the QB has regressed and was never good enough to start with.
Offense was supposed to carry us this season. That gets conveniently lost in translation.... so does that the whole offense was catered to Kirk's liking.....
