i'm sorry can you paint out this scenario of this mysterious young coach we build a dynasty around? for what 10-20 years? Do you realize how rare that is. Coaches are lucky to last 5. There's only 1 guy who's been on his team for a decade and he won six super bowls. Vikings need to win one Super Bowl and we need to win it now. Last chance we had was in 2009 with Favre, next chance we have is if we had Jim Harbaugh who is a proven commodity who is going to be more driven to win a Super Bowl than ever.
So you're saying if he won us our first Super Bowl in history and was gone in five or six years, you'd rather take the "35 year old" who is young enough to be around for ten years...with no Super Bowl. And again, if he's not winning a Super Bowl, he ain't gonna be our coach for a "long time". The point i'm making is, the idea of going for a "young coach" over an old one doesn't work, because the lifespan of a coach regardless of age is going to be short. And the duration is not based on age, but the ability to win. And neither of those are guaranteed as we saw Doug Pederson was fired within a couple of years of winning a Super Bowl. Yet can you find me one Eagles fan who would give up that Super Bowl to have some other "young coach" still on their team? heck no.
You get the coach who gives you the best chance to win a Super Bowl. And considering how empty our SB mantle is, just give me one, and then later on i'll start demanding dynasties.
Just playing devils advocate, but how do you know the young hc can’t bring us to the sb? Because no one knows imo.
