With 7 whole games in the rearview mirror for most teams and rookies, I thought it was about time someone did a re-draft of the Vikings 2020 draft class. So here it is.
The rules I tried to follow here was only draft where the Vikings originally had picks or where they traded back from. I actually only used the trade back assets from the first trade of the draft when the Vikings dropped back in the 1st round and selected Gladney. I also ignored most of the 7th rounders because Rick makes it very difficult to track which pick is which and there weren't a lot of 7th rounders I care about anyway (which should be Rick's philosophy on 7th rounders). If I messed up somewhere, please let me know.
The players with the strikes through them are players who were picked with picks we didn't have because I didn't trade back, or 7th rounders I don't care about.
The team still probably sucks, because rookies don't typically save seasons, but there were a number of guards who could have made the offense better, as would have Johnson. We might also not have shipped a second for Ngakoue if Gross-Matos was on the team. Who knows though.

Round | Original Player | Alternate Selection | Alternate Selection Actual Draft Spot | AS PFF Grade | AS Starts | Additional Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1-22 | Justin Jefferson | Same | Why would you change this pick? | |||
1-31 | Jeff Gladney | Yetur Gross-Matos -DE | 2-38 | 76.2 | 0 | He was hurt this week but is looking very good in a small sample size. his 10.2 pressure percentage is #1 with a bullet among all rookie ends |
2-58 | Ezra Cleveland | Jonah Jackgson - Guard | 3-75 | 66 | 5 | Starting for the Lions, he has given up 2 sacks and 7 pressures but doing really well. People will call this a reach here and those people would be wrong. |
3-89 | Cameron Dantzler | |||||
4-105 | DJ Wonnum | 4-117 | 51.7 | 0 | Maybe redundant with Matos, but I think he will be okay | |
4-117 | DJ Wonnum | L'Jarious Sneed -CB | 4-138 | 69.3 | 3 | He is playing really well as a rookie for the Chiefs only giving up 60 yards in 3 starts |
Unlike Rick I don't want to pass on talent for 6th and 7th rounders | ||||||
4-132 | Troy Dye | James Lynch -DT | 4-130 | 60.9 | 0 | Most people seem to like this pick so what the heck. |
5-169 | Harrison Hand | Tyler Johnson - WR | 5-161 | 59.2 | 2 | He would be our 3rd best WR by a mile. We actually use our original pick at 155 here if anyone was wondering how we got him with pick 169. |
5-176 | KJ Osborne | Michael Onwenu - Guard | 6-182 | 90.5 | 5 | He is starting for NE and doing an excellent job at guard, giving up 4 pressures in 5 starts and 0 sacks. Another great late round find by one of the greatest GMs of all time |
6-205 | Josh Metellus | Kamren Kurl - Safety | 7-216 | 53.7 | 2 | Maybe a guy who develops into something and would be okay depth at safety |
7-253 | Kyle Hinton | Essang Bassey - CB | UDFA | 47 | 1 | He is getting a lot of reps as a UDFA rookie for Denver. Solid value here. |
