I was listening to Mathew Collier's podcast and he had Jeremiah Sirles on. Sirles went in depth analyzing the execution of each of the lineman's blocking assignments on our failed 4th down attempt. Apparently the screwing of the pooch started with Dozier, the entire line was supposed to block down in unison in ISO. Dozier, who's either too stupid to know his assignments or didn't care enough to pay attention in the huddle, blocked up the line to the right and the result was that he ran into Bradbury knocking him off of his assignment.
And then there's Samia, according to Jeremiah, he should have stepped with his left foot first to help create leverage but instead, he simply pivoted which is technically unsound and allowed the defender to completely blow him up (*shocker*). Apparently O'Neill did the same thing as Samia, pivoting instead of lunging with his left foot first, and he lost his battle as well. This caused Ham to short-step/hesitate which in turn cause Mattison to hesitate, and essentially killed the play.
If this is accurate, this is 100% coaching, people! How can you have the entire line not executing their assignments using, poor technique, unless they haven't been properly taught?
That one play, and resulting loss, is bad enough but the greatness that is Dru Samia is rated dead last in the league of all, yes, every single offensive lineman! Dozier is just a couple spots being him, FTR.
Look, I'm not saying these are pro bowl players under the right coach, I'm simply saying that the right coach would at least make sure they knew their assignments and used the proper techniques. How is this in any way permissible? How does he still have a job with this organization?
All I know is that they better get their heads out of the sand <---(me being nice) and start evaluating/inserting other players than can, at the very least, block in the right direction with proper technique. I don't care if that come from free agency or from the practice or active roster, they need to make changes.....and this time....it literally WOULD be impossible to be worse.
