In 2019, this team was 28th overall in time of possession at 28:38.
In 2018, this team was 24th overall in time of possession at 29:10 seconds
As of right now, the Minnesota Vikings are dead last in time of possession following the first two games with a jaw-dropping 20:09 seconds.
The next worst team in time of possession appears to be the consensus pick for the worst team in football, the New York Jets, at 23:15.
No other team is worse than at least 25 minutes.
It seems like offensive futility hits the team in brutal, game-killing stretches.
It was a problem with Stefanski and it appears to still be a devastating problem with Kubiak.
The Green Bay Game had a 3 possession streak in the first half that was a brutal thing to watch.
Possession 1: 2 plays, -1 yard, safety
Possession 2: 3 plays, -5 yards, punt
Possession 3: 2 plays, 0 yards, interception
Indianapolis Colts nightmare skid following stalling in the red zone and getting a field goal on their first possession.
Possession 1 (following an interception): 3 plays, 5 yards, punt
Possession 2: 3 plays, 2 yards, punt
Possession 3: 3 plays, -2 yards, safety
Possession 4: 3 plays, 0 yards, interception
Possession 5: 4 plays, 22 yards, interception
Possession 6: 2 plays, 0 yards, interception
Possession 7: 6 plays, 13 yards, punt
Possession 8: 3 plays, 3 yards, punt
That's insane. As for time of possession issues, the longest amount of time in the colts game were 5:59 seconds for the field goal drive, and 4:03 seconds for a bunch of running in a dead game that ending in a punt at 4:03 minutes. In that time, the safety and 3 interception possessions took up a total amount of time of 1:05, 25 seconds, 24 seconds and 15 seconds. What's the defense supposed to do when they get hung out to dry like that?
The only saving grace of this depleted, poorly coached and totally sold out defense is they're really good in the red zone with that "bend don't break" Minnesota Defense style. If they weren't long term great at red zone D every team in the league would hang 40 points on this 2020 team.
