With one week in the books, and the power of hindsight at my disposal, it is time to look at the rookies Rick completely whiffed on at positions of need.
#1 RG Solomon Kindley, 4th round by the Miami Dolphins
Picked 7 spots of ahead of Wonnum, Kindley had a fantastic start against the NE Patriots, giving up just 1 pressure on 38 pass blocks. He also graded well run blocking according to PFF. If Rick knew how to identify talented Oline and drafted Kindley, this Oline would be looking really good right about now.
#2 CB L'Jarious Sneed, 4th round by the KC Chiefs
Sneed was drafted late in the 4th, 6th spots after the Vikings drafted the great Troy Dye. He didn't grade well with PFF and missed a couple of tackles, but he only gave up 19 yards on a 2 completion starting against the Texans, despite being targeted frequently. His career is already light years ahead of our 3rd and 1st round CBs (this last bit was mostly sarcastic).
#3 CB Michael Ojemedia, 3rd round by the Denver Broncos
Drafted before Dantzler in the 3rd round, he had a fantastic night in coverage (struggled with run support). He gave up 2 completions for just 16 yards.
Runner up from the same team: CB Essang Bassey, UDFA.
#4 Safety Kamren Curl, 7th round by the Washington football team
He didn't have the run stopping day you want out of a safety, but he gave up -8 yards on 3 targets somehow.
#5 WR Darnell Mooney, 5th round by the Chicago Bears
The highest graded rookie WR by PFF, the guy managed to get 38 yards on 3 receptions on 3 targets with Trubiskey throwing him the ball. With Allen Robinson looking to get out of Chicago, his role might become much bigger as the season goes on.
That is it. Rookies tend to suck for the most part, especially this early in the season, so there wasn't a lot to choose from. Doing this research it became pretty clear how stupid some of us were to think a rookie could come in and replace the solid vet without missing a beat. Also, while most of this is just tongue in cheek, and I am still good with the draft for the most part, Kindley being that successful that early on does kind of sting.
