Or, in other words, who has worn out their welcome?
1. Fred Cox: a sixties era, straight on kicker that Bud Grant kept well into the seventies. We always had short kick offs and, towards the end, he was even missing 30 yard field goals (I distinctly remember him missing one - would have been a game winner - against the then St. Louis Cardinals by bouncing it off the horizontal bar in 1972)
2. AP: you all know the story(s)
3. Paul Krause: great safety in his day, but stayed on way too long; especially in punt return duties. I recall him getting a very rare "booooo" at the met for fair catching a ball when the defenders were 10 - 20 yards away. He even did that "take a bow / blow a kiss to the crowd thing" (remember that one minniman?). He never dropped them. He never did anything with them.
4. Chris Carter: this one is tough. I love the guy, but he was just so full of himself toward the end that it was nauseating. I remember his fake retirement announcement during a super bowl week. It was like, "just leave brother."
5. Daunte Culpepper: What was it he said publicly? "I'm a ten million dollar QB?" I think it was McCombs that he held hostage. Let's not even get into the Love Boat....
Who have I missed?
