My question for you would be this. Do the Vikings fizzle out in the playoffs because the defense plays poorly,or because the offense plays poorly?

Because in recent history,I believe the biggest issue has been that the offense has failed dismally in the playoffs managing to score a grand total of 9,7 and 10 points in the final games of the season.
And what has the Vikings front office done about this? They have spent a vast amount of draft capital on defense,very little on offense (none at the QB position) and bet the house on a QB who by your own admission isn't elite,even though he is being paid like one.

You win games by winning up front on both sides of the ball,yet Rick Spielman only builds one side,and then when the offense gets torched in the playoffs because the OL can't handle the pass rush,nothing gets done.Just trot out the same bunch and expect a different result,get torched again,give the GM who can't build on O Line an extension and think you can win.

I really don’t disagree with anything you said. My point was just if you can get better do it. See my post on first page - basically gave Rick a thumbs up but said it would have been two if he had been a guard of comparable quality. I used to believe that you had to be dominant in the trenches on both sides of the ball to win. But now that it’s a passing league it seems average line play can get the job done. It’s the skill positions that get you the wins now. The problem with the Vikings is their O line is below average.
People then say just trade for a very good guard. The problem is availability.
Same with the situation with Cousins. At the time we didn’t have a QB that could get it done. I liked Case but when a QB of Cousins ability is available I said go for it. He’s better than what we had and drafting and developing one where we pick is a crap shoot. So yes he’s over paid and most QBs are. Is Stafford over paid ? Overall I do wish we had drafted o line earlier because it has been a chronic weakness and your only as good as your weakest link so if will probably be our downfall again

I've been reading these posts yesterday and today. Trying to grasp if this is a huge deal or just another one year rental. He seems very good though not many say great. Will he demand being paid as great next year?
It is good they keep trying to put the best roster on the field as possible. Always using ever bit of cap available. We will see if this is a long term thing or just this year. Having two good DE's is never bad. If what I'm reading here is correct. Hopefully not just fan speak exuberance.

If being a Viking fan was easy ~ everyone would do it.

Couldn't disagree more. Cap space rolls over to future years and teams make the decision every year that the cost of an upgrade at one position or another isn't worth it.

The Vikings just lost 12 million in cap in 2021. If they still miss the playoffs, was it worth upgrading at DE for a season for 12 million in cap in 2021? That is on top of a 2nd round pick we gave up for him.

My intent did not come out as clear as it could have. Maybe if I added question marks. I mean they do keep spending but so far it hasn't had that feel of long term potential success. I thought it was clear that I'm not sold as this being the missing piece. Hence the exuberance comment.

Yikes!!!

Hill seems to do better in relief. When ever he was slated as the starter and teams could game plan against him he did not fare well.

I'd move O'Neal over to LT. Still have good depth with both Hill/Clev and start Udoh at RT.

Possibly. But for the long term I know they are hoping Cleveland is the lt. hopefully he starts developing more the near future. I really hope next offseason is finally the time we can bring in an above average to good guard whether it be in draft or fa.

I think they must have changed Clev mechanics or the like for him to be pushed down the depth chart this far. usually a 2nd rd pick starts for this regime no matter what.

thinking aloud here... but during the Saint's game, we tried something different and used Hunter at tackle... I wonder if this is going to allow them to do something like that in obvious passing downs. It worked against NO... I could see that being a means of getting more snaps for the 3 guys who can generate pressure at the expense of those who cannot...

I agree with many that the Offensive Line's pass protection is still weak until proven otherwise. Viking coaches and leaders have had all year to address the problems caused by Green Bay, Chicago, and San Francisco. If the problem persists, it will be frustrating.
