Nope many wont. Vets with no cap hit or fringe players know they will be screwed in 2021 either way. There are two figures being floated the best case 14 teams will be over the cap the worst case all but 4 will be in 2021. So I see players digging in because there won't be any benefit for them in 2021 to take pay cuts in 2020. Guys like Kirk will be in the 20%+ range for cap leaving +-80% for 52 other players. That contract is even worse now then before.
It's going to effect rosters even with a full season if revenue is down not to mention a shortened season. The split of loss is more on the owners sides 80/20 so it will be interesting to see what side has more greed. Its definitely going to effect the product in 2021.
The other aspect is how many teams sign all or part of their draft picks. If signed they are guaranteed their money even if they don't have a season in 2020 and if they aren't signed they will be back in the 2021 draft.
Look at our roster and start cutting guys with no dead cap hit first then guys with big savings with little dead cap. Basically Smith Harris will be a FA Rudy Thielen Reiff Kendricks Barr Pierce and even Hunter. Many may be post June 1st cuts to spread it over 2 years. Then look at FA. Not to mention teams that have cap will feast. Many rosters will be filled with low budget scrubs and many high tier players will be shelved especially older high paid vets.
It may not be a 40% salary reduction, but there will be some form of agreement between the 2. As alluded to above, it might come in the form of no salary cap increases for several years.
You mean like kneeling? The NFL thinks it's above all damage and no player is going to sell out for the NFL. Why would the players bend? The owners still take the lions share of money. The NFL will end up stealing from Peter to pay Paul and it will hurt some of the players regardless. What will happen is you will see a few marquee players and instead of 60% mid to lower tier you will see 80% or many vets taking it in the shorts. Contracts like Kirk's will kill the team and how many of those players do you think will care?
