Here's my take on it all. I'm not a Ted head but I feel like I need to defend him. First of all, let's not act like Teddy played himself out of the job, the ONLY reason Bradford and Keenum is the topic of conversation right now is due to the massive injury Teddy suffered. The reason Teddy is part of the discussion is because Ponder actually PLAYED HIMSELF OUT of a starting job and possibly out of a job in the NFL. I love Ponder as a human being but as a football player he ain't sh*t, he wasn't sh*t in college either, he had one good year, his senior year and a good performance at the senior bowl and Rick Spielmen thought the guy was going to be a star from there on out. lol
Teddy had two GREAT years of college football which is why he didn't need to wait until after his senior year to get drafted. I just don't like the Ponder to Teddy comparisons. Ponder was a NOBODY who made a name for himself because Rick and his scouting team sucks at scouting QBs in the draft.
But as I said, Teddy didn't play himself out. Both Keenum and Bradford played themselves out of their drafted teams and play themselves out of the teams they were sent to afterwards. lol We don't know the ceiling for Teddy yet, he only has ONE FULL SEASON, with the team. 2014, he wasn't even supposed to start but Cassell went down and once again another one of our rookie QBs gets thrown into the wolves way earlier than he needed to be. 2016 was supposed to be the prove it year. The same stuff ppl are complaining about now, he was working on his passing during training camp and the preseason. I think the game before he went down, he was displaying some big passes downfield. Granted it's preseason but it still showed that he was beginning to take his game to another level. But of course the injury ended that goal and since then he never got a chance to prove himself. To label him as bad QB after one season when Bradford and Keenum had sh*t seasons and never been to the playoff seasons before they came to Minnesota, that's just ridiculous.
Not to mention, the scheme was much different. This is the first season in years where the offense was not centered around one star player, everybody got a chance to eat. This was still Peterson's team in 2015 and would have been in 2016 too had HE not gotten injured. Our OCs never took the time to play to the strengths of our players except Shurmur. I think Teddy could excel in a more dynamic offense like we have become.
And as for him not winning his job back this past season. This is not a Madden Video game. You can't just stick players in and expect them to return back to form. You have to mentally get these guys prepared just as you would physically. And since Keenum was playing pretty well, why would you bench him? Especially where we were at during the season. The Vikings made the safest choice if anything, which was sticking with the hot hand. He was winning games, why take him out.
