Mockmaster's 2017 Draft Preview: My Big Board, Draft Crushes, Vikings Fits, and a Good Ol' Fashioned Mock Draft
Plenty more at the link above. Worth the look.
THE IDEAL DRAFT
Can it exist? Possibly, but if I were the GM, based on my board and players the Vikings have expressed interest in via meetings and workouts, this is something how the draft would go:
Possible Trade: If Forrest Lamp is there in the 20-25 range, I would love to be able to move up and grab him. However, for the sake of simplicity, none of the picks will be traded, so here goes:
Pick #48 (Round 2): Joe Mixon, RB, Oklahoma
With Mixon, we lock down a running back that can catch passes well, run well, and also block well. He's the best back in the draft, but sits behind Fournette on my board only because of the obvious off the field issues. He would be a true steal in the second round if he's there. The only problem with taking Mixon here is scrambling for a guard in the next round or two.
Alternate Picks:
Dan Feeney, OG, Indiana
Pat Elflein, C/OG, Ohio State
Chris Godwin, WR, Penn State
Pick #79 (Round 3): Ethan Pocic, OG/C, LSU
Pocic would have the ability to step in from day one at either guard or center (and move Berger to guard). We would be able to fill in our starters on the line. I personally think Elflein or Feeney would be preferred by the Vikings for the line, but they would both likely be off the board here.
Alternate Picks:
Tarell Basham, EDGE, Ohio
Duke Riley, OLB, LSU
Alvin Kamara, RB, Tennessee
Antonio Garcia, OT, Troy
Pick #86 (Round 3): Jaleel Johnson, DT, Iowa
Johnson would be the guy to step in for Floyd if Floyd is done with his nerve damage. He's a solid 3-tech with the ability to do play both the pass and the run, but may be a bit undersized in the NFL.
Alternate Picks:
See above alternates.
Pick #121 (Round 4): George Kittle, TE, Iowa
Another Iowa player, Kittle is a tight end who ran the second fastest 40 at the combine, is an excellent blocker (and better than some of the linemen in this draft), and can catch the ball well. He needs work on his routes as Iowa didn't use him much in the receiving end, but he reminds many of another former Hawkeye TE - Dallas Clark.
Alternate Picks:
Marlon Mack, RB, USF
Kareem Hunt, RB, Toledo
Corn Elder, CB, Miami (FL)
Josh Jones, SS, North Carolina State
Samaje Perine, RB, Oklahoma
Davon Godchaux, DT, LSU
