If I’m Rick Spielman, I’m not waiting until the 6th round for a wide receiver and think I can pull a rabbit out of the hat and get lucky with another Stefon Diggs.
Diggs is out and Vikes are probably better with him not on sidelines. Had they had salary cap space, I would have made a strong push for Amari Cooper in free agency. But that’s water over the bridge.
As good as Cooper is and as many WRs that are good also in this draft and a few that may mirror Cooper - I do t trust anyone in this 6-1 and under group - no matter their accolades or the outspoken testimonies you’ll get from their college coaches.
At WR in the NFL - unless you have Tyreek Hill speed or Antonio Brown moves - you best go with size and length. That’s why I’m a big Tee Higgins fan. 6-4, 215 pounds, 4.4 in the 40 and a nice reach with long arms. Plus 25 TDs in the last two years. Yes, only a 31-inch vertical but he seems to get nice separation, uses his body well and can snatch ball at highest point over under sized cornerbacks.
I think he’s the perfect compliment to Adam Thielen and could also go across the middle. In fact, I would line them both up on same side of field and let Cousins read the D. At 6-4 he also gives the Vikes a great red zone, end zone threat besides Rudolph.
You probably go after him with the second of your first round picks and go offensive line with your first pick.
As rumored, it seems Spielman is content on possibly trading to stack picks in mid to later rounds. I think that’s a mistake. Go with size, decent speed, length and ability to go get it. Go with Higgins and give Cousins a much needed big young target.
