Turning down lowball offers is not leverage. The existence of so many lowball offers and teams walking away is leverage.

The Redskins thought, quite wrongly, people were desperate for Williams. Nope.

I don’t remember the Vikings upping any offer. We know they offered a day 3 pick for him, of course we know the redskins wanted more. Maybe stubbornness on their part. If the Skins had leverage they would’ve got what they wanted from another team already. The fact is no team wants to give up what the Redskins think he is worth. So teams are addressing their need in the draft. The skins would have leverage if there was no other way to go but give up what they wanted for him. I’m not saying the Vikings had leverage because the Skins could just let him waste on the roster if no one else wants him

A 5th and a 2021 3rd that's likely to be a late 3rd isn't a very good return for Washington. It's a big step down from the 2nd rounder they were hoping for. It's better than not trading him, but still not good.

If all things are equal, you're going to choose the guy(s) you're familiar with. That's all this is. Seems like San Fran joined the party pretty late. A 5th and a late 3rd? Meh, took them long enough to get an underwhelming deal like that, which was definitely less than they wanted. Williams would rather play in San Fran for Shanahan. I get that.
