Mike.... let me be clear on this:
1. Smith us our best player on the team (overall quality)
2. Smith is my favorite player on the team for me personally
That said, Smith had A LOT of mileage. It's not even that he's too old, it's that his body has taken a beating for playing so many snaps in his career so far. Well, and his age is getting up there too of course. Combine that with the fact we like to hang on to guys too long instead of making timely moves...... what could go wrong? I'd count on Harrison this season as our starter next to Harris, for sure. But after this season? I'm not sure it would be wise to keep him beyond this season. Harris, on the other hand, just had two great back to back seasons.... and has LOW mileage on his body. Which means when he reaches Smith's age... he won't have nearly as many snaps played in his career. He was out with injuries and also a backup earlier in his career. Didn't take as much of a beating. There is NO DOUBT in my mind whatsoever that Harris can continue this level of play for 3-4 more seasons.
Cook, not so much..... he went one season (wait, no.... he got injured and was largely ineffective second half of the season).......
