So you get a career ending injury under the tag. Smart move. How do you think he gets the best long term contract? Staying with a cap struck team or forcing his way out like many other players have. People do understand the Vikings have to account for the cap hit even if he sits out till wk 10 so he can force their hands. If I'm his agent knowing he's barely top 10 pay with the tag with 1 shot I dont cave. I get top 5 money or force my way to it. Harris already knows what injury in college did to his draft stock.
What? No I said I wouldnt risk playing under the tag, or at least not if I didnt have to. The smart thing for Harris to do, if you ask me, is come to an agreement on a long term contract with the Vikings, even if that contract is slightly below market value.
Now if the team is significantly lowballing me, that's another issue. But in that case, I would rather gamble on myself on a one year deal than hold out for an entire season, especially considering Harris' age and limited starting experience. Sitting out 10 games is a good way to kill any positive momentum he's built. He's a hot commodity now, but a lot can change in 12 months, and you can ask Melvin Gordon how much hype you can lose sitting at home watching your replacement match your production.
They are lowballing him at this point. He's making 3 mill less than the top tier S. He is barely making more than Smith and he has all his big money in pocket. If they low ball me I go public and force my way out. Minnesota cant eat 12 mill in cap this year. He either gets 14 mill a year or he is gone. They just have their money tied up in guys not worthy of it at LB, OL and QB.
