maybe zimmer isn't as stubborn as we think. bringing in a guy like capers who has run a completely different style to learn from shows he understands he needs to tweak his current scheme to try and get the group back where they need to be.
With 3-4 specialist Dom Capers arriving as a senior defensive assistant, Zimmer told reporters on Tuesday that he’s looking to “get some fresh ideas,” via Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
“Dom has been doing this for a long time and I know he’s always had really good ideas,” Zimmer said. “I just wanted a really good idea guy.”

I never really bought into the narrative that Zimmer is stubborn. And with recent hires, it's obvious that his ego isn't as big as people like to claim either. Weird, who knew!? Looks like he's putting people in positions for innovation as well as to allow him more time to focus on being HC/to better manage the whole team. Good for him understanding what's at stake and refusing to sit idle.
