Maybe the Packers will take a shot at him.

It wasn't so bad since Spielman literally traded down 5 times before picking him. It's one thing to reach on a prospect, but another to trade down several times and then grab the guy.

Also, I heard that last year, Butler had a bad training camp and was basically stashed on the IR with a finger injury, which is something that did not require missing the whole season. Then he didn't have a good second camp...

It's a huge admission of defeat from the Patriots, who will supposedly stash the No. 159 overall pick of the draft on the practice squad.

Why do teams keep wasting draft picks on kickers? Rohrwasser was doing so poorly he couldn't even make the team after being a 5th round pick!

Dolphins acquired RB Lynn Bowden and a 2021 sixth-round pick from the Raiders in exchange for a 2021 fourth-round pick.
It's the same fourth-round pick the Raiders initially dealt to Miami in exchange for Raekwon McMillan. Bowden had never played running back before being designated there on draft night and reportedly failed to "flash a lot of speed" at camp, but this news still comes as a surprise

Wow, it's not often a team gives up on a 3rd rounder in his first season. I saw Bowden as a reach, as the QB/HB/WR Kentucky prospect is a gimmicky player who doesn't have a true position. Mike Mayock continues to make bizarre draft choices.

Titans signed DL Jadeveon Clowney.
Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reports it's a one-year, $12 million contract for the edge rusher. It's nowhere near premium money, so he'll have to earn a long-term contract with his play this season.

Clowney finally lands, and it's with the Titans. That's the exact amount of money the Vikings are paying Ngakoue, so it's fair to wonder whether they should have went with Clowney... Ngakoue is better at converting pressures into sacks, but Clowney is a much stronger run defender and didn't cost a 2nd round pick.

However you want to slice it........Ricky and Kubiak picked a very RB in Mattison in last years draft. I for one am glad we didn't select Butler.

This poster I was referring to was adamant that Ricky blew it by drafting Mattison and not his boy Butler. I wonder how he feels about Bisi Johnson now.......

I actually believe you are referencing my thoughts on it. It was in my opinion that the Vikings could have picked up Butler, Mattison, and Samia if they had played their cards right while still being able to draft Bisi Johnson if they had wished.

Who knows, perhaps they had Mattison rated much higher on their board and went BPA, but it looked like one of those picks that Spielman makes to fill a need, and there was a need with Cook's injury.

I agree. Not often do players change into dissimilar positions and do well in the NFL. The mistake was to waste a high draft pick on him.

I'm just glad we came away from that 2019 draft with some really good football players. So far it's looking like one of Ricky's better draft classes.

The Saints apparently made a last minute offer yesterday and the Titans had to bump their price up $3M to land him.

So, they approached another team to find a workaround. (Sources didn't confirm the other team, which hereafter is referred to as "Team X", but it is believed to be the Cleveland Browns, who have ample cap space and a front office known for having a propensity for creativity, most memorably on display in their 2016 trade for quarterback Brock Osweiler.)

The sides discussed parameters of a deal in which Team X would've signed Clowney to a one-year, $15 million contract and paid him a $5 million signing bonus. Then, Team X would've immediately traded Clowney to the Saints, who would've sent Team X a second-round draft pick, as well as a player to take additional salary off New Orleans' books. The Saints would've paid Clowney's remaining $10 million salary.

Just one problem: The teams got word late Saturday the NFL was unlikely to approve such a deal.

The Saints were so desperate to get Clowney under their cap, they'd trade a 2nd rounder to Cleveland just to pay for $5M of his salary. Read more here.

On the eve of the first regular-season week, the Pittsburgh Steelers secured their defensive anchor for at least five more years with a historic contract.

The Steelers and All-Pro defensive lineman Cameron Heyward have finalized a five-year, $75.1 million extension, a league source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler late Sunday night. The monster contract yields the highest per-year average for any defensive player over the age of 30 in NFL history.

The deal includes the last year of Heyward's current contract and has $65.6 million in new money.

A 2011 first-rounder, Heyward, 31, is entering his 10th season with the Steelers coming off a nine-sack, Pro Bowl season. The Ohio State product, a starter for the past seven seasons, has 54 career sacks and 117 quarterback hits.
