I know what you are saying and don’t disagree with most. But just saying you have to be aware of danger before you can act Do you want a QB to just run after 2 seconds or some set period of time no matter what and not keep looking down field. Dan Marino is a great example of being able to feel the pressure and move just enough to still get the pass off. Don’t have to be a “running “ QB but have to be aware of pressure first. Awareness is key because it’s first. Then you have a QB with happy feet that never gets set for the proper throwing motion So we actually agree and your statement that it wasn’t awareness as much as ability to escape is wrong. Think about it, you are contradicting yourself. There are many QBs that can escape pressure ( but main job is throwing) but don’t you really want a Dan ( fill in Fouts or Marino ) that stands in there and doesn’t just bail. Sacks are generally due to failure of the line. And yes I know all about holding ball too long blah blah blah.
Otherwise a running QB while exciting doesn’t last long in NFL. Pocket passer or running QB. Hybrids while ideal are like zebras - rarely seen.
That's the issue with lots of young QBs that get away with it in college 1 read and run. Not many even understand how to read a defence yet can run more in 1 game than Brady or Brees have in years. A few are being pumped here already.
