This is going to sound sacrilegious, but I'm actually rooting for the 49ers to beat us! It comes down to this, as great as it was for Kirk to stick it to the Saints in the end, I see no evidence that our offense has turned the corner, and that we are in Step 1 of an improbable run to the SB as if it were the late 2000s when wild card teams were winning SB's left and right. I blame today's performance more on the Saints being incredibly overrated than the Vikings being ready for the Super Bowl. with that in mind, if we pull together another scrappy upset of the 49ers, that places the NFC championship game in Lambeau Field. (of course if SEA wins then disregard all this), but because I know the Vikings are severely flawed, and because the Vikings put forth 2 out of 2 incredibly limp performances against the Packers already, adding in the sub-zero weather, says the odds of beating the Packers in the NFCCG are incredibly slim. and i cannot think of anything more infuriating or humiliating than for those overrated Packer bandits to make it to the Super Bowl by beating US!!!!

so knowing that this isn't our year anyway, i would rather enjoy the one win and end the season, because I know the 49ers would COMPLETELY DEMOLISH the Packers in San Francisco. So i'm willing to take one for the team and do the job so SF can prevent GB from getting to the SB. i'm sorry but way too risky. We'll get 'em next year!

well that's my point. And my post is somewhat tongue in cheek, but the point is confidence in our ability to beat the Packers on the road, and the consequences of that loss would be. When we play the Saints or the Niners and can have the mindset that we have "nothing to lose" is largely true. We win great, but if we lose, we go back to the drawing board and move on. But if we lost to the Packers in the friggin' NFC championship game, there is a MAJOR consequence, and that being we just put the Packers in the dang Super Bowl, and we've given even more ammunition to those smug cheeseheads.

And while our minds are focused on Kirk Cousins turning into Tom Brady in OT in New Orleans, it covers the reality that the Vikings did not have a great game or even a good game. Yes Danielle and Griffin were frickin awesome, as was Dalvin. but our team made a ton of mistakes, blown plays, and missed opportunities. like a LOT. if the Saints weren't suffering from their own implosion I'm not sure what woulda happened. and one could say we won because of a mere coin flip. Saints drove down in 2 minutes to close regulation and only because of poor clock mgmt they restricted themselves to a FG. they could've easily hit a TD in OT.

If we beat the Niners due to some weird matchup advantage or the Niners just blow it Saints-style, I have no confidence that the Packers would choke against us. They are very comfortable playing us, and for the last 2 games we blew it w/them. That game would be far too risky. What stinks is we play the Niners on Saturday and Pack on Sunday. So if we would win on Saturday, would be the most nerve-wracking 24 hours hoping and praying the Seahawks beat GB (i'm considerably more comfortable playing SEA than GB). But the main point is, if we would lose to the Packers in the NFC title game, this would not be a 'nothing to lose', there would be a catastrophic consequence: GB in the SB. and that cannot happen...

Really? Thats what this is about? Packer penis envy? Good golly Miss Molly. I thought you were going to finish strong, like you started, with something like "if we lose we still have a chance of heads rolling so we can win a SB in the near future." I would have had to say sorry, its too late, we have low standards in MN and winning a wildcard game every couple years is what we call "success" in the land of 10,000 lakes filled with purple tears. But at least I could have identified with the good intentions. But to wish us a loss just because you want the Peckers to lose? And because you really think next year we have a better chance? Whats going to be different next year? History shows us that next year we will probably miss the playoffs entirely.
