Well yeah it's always great to get into the big dance, but the way I see it is, if you need help (back in), or you barely get in as a 6 seed, you're more than likely going to get throttled in that extra game, so how much enjoyment are you actually going to get from it lol?

The playoffs actually begin week 16 or 17 sometimes. They're not necessarily elimination games, but they can help determine how much easier weeks 18-20 will be for you. So yeah, we're in the playoffs, but we just made weeks 18-20 a whole lot more difficult for ourselves, and that's why I complain about it. Instead of an easier playoff game at Dallas/Philly, now we're looking at a much more difficult game at New Orleans/Green Bay. Or if by some miracle Green Bay losses to Detroit next week, then we cost ourselves a home playoff game and possibly a first round bye. All we had to do was take care of our own business, but we can't even do that, just like last year.

I mean think about it, we essentially had a home playoff game last year against the Bears week 17 and lost badly, then we essentially just had a home playoff game against Green Bay, and once again lost badly. How is that supposed to make anyone feel optimistic about playing on the road in the actual playoffs? Or at home for that matter?

There should be a reason for optimism IMO, and this team has never given any. When it comes to the Vikings, optimistic fans are optimistic just for the sake of being optimistic. I get the feeling they think it helps the team in some way, but if that were true, we shouldn't need help getting the 6th seed every year lol. And no, I'm not pessimistic, I'm realistic. My thoughts are based entirely on the evidence. 58 years of evidence.

The Vikings sure do like making it difficult for themselves and then they wonder why the trophy case is still empty. You can point to a number of seasons where we actually cost ourselves a Super Bowl appearance in weeks 15-17. 2000 and 2009 for example. We lost 5 of 6 combined those 2 years in the final 3 weeks, change any of them to a win and the NFCCG is at home those years. You could say the same about 2017, if we don't sh*t the bed at Carolina in week 14, then the NFCCG at home. There's 2 or 3 Super Bowl appearances right there.

This is why I complain lol. Just once I want this team to take care of business when it has the opportunity.

I'm very disappointed in this showing. For the record I said I would be very upset if we lost this one. I didn't figure we would actually win the division that wasn't even it. I just wanted badly to prove we are their equal. Swept again and not just that we lost but how, twice. If they were Ohio State and we were Michigan. How good your record was otherwise wouldn't matter if you couldn't win that one at home.

I haven't listen to or watched a single NFL show since Monday. That's why I think I'll skip watching this week and just follow the score. I don't want any reminder about this last one before we go on the road for the playoffs. I'll watch the playoff game but I'm not emotionally into to it at all now.

Zimmer needs to pull out a playoff win or it will be a LONG off season. I will have a hard time welcoming back Mike and Kirk next year to run out their contracts.

First off, I don't think like you do. Not for one second do I think my optimistic view of the vikings helps them in any way. That's a weird take IMO. And I sure as sh!t have no idea how it's suppose to make you or others feel after a game that was played last year or that recent MNF game. If I were to guess, not so confident because vikings......you know, their history and all. You can go on about past games and whole seasons. No thanks, it just ends up going in circles. I get it, no Super Bowls, many huge playoffs losses, curses/jinxes....you name it. Feel free to complain I won't stop you. 58 years is a long time

So far this season we've won 10 games to earn the right to play in the post season. I'm going to fully enjoy watching that extra game. Much like I did in the past when the vikings went to the playoffs.

It will be a lot easier for us to advance if we play good football in January.

Sorry, I forgot my NotAll hashtag. I just get the feeling that most optimistic fans believe their optimism has some sort of affect on the teams performance because they sure do get grumpy towards those of us who don't share the same level of optimism xD.

Well I'll let you in on a little secret because there seems to be some confusion when it comes to us Debby Downers. We're so critical of the team because we do in fact want them to succeed, so the losses suck. It would be nice if we didn't have to be so critical. You know, just once. But I imagine you optimistic types have further to fall when the Vikings do in fact Viking up the joint

So you're someone who doesn't believe in pattern recognition? How do you know a team like the Bengals will most likely lose their next game if you don't take past performances into consideration? How do bookies set their lines?

The Vikings have lost to everyone above .500 (give or take an 8-7 NFC East team or 2), and last time I checked, they only let the teams who are above .500 into the playoffs (usually). So yeah, we earned a right to go to the playoffs because we were fortunately enough to play enough of those teams who didn't qualify for the playoffs. I complain because had we maybe beaten some of those playoff caliber teams, not only would we have improved our own playoff seeding/chances, it would have given more of us the confidence that we were capable of beating those teams again in the playoffs, and maybe in our own building. That's what pattern recognition does for me. I mean there are ways that the Vikings can bring us more joy believe it or not. Isn't that the point? You're focused on the 1 extra game, but you're missing the big picture. That 1 extra game could have been 3 extra games and more W's, which means more enjoyment. That's the difference between championship mindset and optimism.

I really like your posts. Very refreshing and funny. That pattern recognition thing you speak of is not something I believe in. I rooted for a hockey team for over 40 years and they finally won the Stanley Cup after losing in the most bizzare ways (Marty McSorley's curved stick) over that time span.

I truly believe in "on any given Sunday." As of right now the vikings are one of 6 teams from the NFC that have a shot at the Super Bowl. It won't be easy!!!!!

I'm throwing the challenge flag on this one. 4 of the Chargers "one-score" games were two-score games until the end when they either scored a garbage FG or TD with seconds remaining. We should only flip one-score games if the team trailing by one-score actually had a realistic shot at tying/winning the game without needing a last second garbage TD that cut it to a one-score game, onside kick, and hail mary xD.
