Question: many assume cap hit would be lower this year even with an extension for Kirk.... why would Kirk take an extension that isn't fully gtd like his original contract was? And why would he accept an extension which isn't a raise (from his POV)?
And while we see the obvious downside to Cousins, his agent will use his overall performance in purple as a justification for a better deal. And unless one of the top QB prospects miraculously falls into our laps in the draft, we'll most likely end up biting the bullet on his contract.
So anything that Kirk would sign now would likely have to incorporate those increases. Hard to see how with those increases we would be able to save money for the future. I also expect that Kirk would want to wait until next year to sign anything to maximize his earnings.
