Week 15 - Vikes @ Chargers Support Group

Well stats/facts are not necessarily a guarantee of future events. Zimmer has beaten 13 straight eliminated opponents in December now, and pretty much all by blowout, but one of these times that could and probably will come to an end, and probably at the worst time. It's a setup. We still have to play the Bears, and it could be for our playoff lives, or the division, or a first round bye. What good will the knowledge of having beaten 13 consecutive eliminated opponents by blowout do us if the Vikings blow that one and cost themselves a golden opportunity?

Games like the Colts, Bills, Broncos, and even Cardinals back in 2003 do in fact happen to this franchise, even the Bears last year where if we win, we're in, but sh*t the bed in spectacular fashion instead, so for some of us, the PTSD is very real lol. In fact, the more sub .500 teams that Zimmer beats via blowout, the more likely the next one is going to kick you in the nuts.

I remember watching the '98 Championship game with a friend. During the game I remember they kept showing graphics and talking about tid bits, Vikings haven't blah blah blah, since blah, Anderson hasn't missed a kick since blah, the Vikings have had 27 straight games of blah, the Falcons have never this or that ... and it's like all of them jinxed us. We went to a bar to watch the AFCCG and drown our sorrows, and we just kept reciting all those graphics and tid bits back to each other while shaking our heads and sarcastically laughing at the disbelief of how they all went wrong like they were check boxes that needed to be ticked to appease the football gods.

That's the Vikings franchise that I've come to know over the past 35 years, so why would I suddenly expect things to be different this time? Fool me once, shame on you, fool me 26 more times ... good grief. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, it won't stop until the Vikings actually get it done for once. Why else would it stop?

The Vikings have never once given any of us a reason to not doubt them, 58 straight years of not getting it done, but then people say it's the negative fans who are irrational lol? Really? Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but you keep expecting different results. The optimistic fans are watching the same franchise do the same thing over and over again but they keep expecting different results. Us negative fans are just waiting for the same thing to happen. The same thing we've always seen happen. It's not even a question of will they, it's when. When and how will it happen this time? It can't be wide left again can it?

You prepare your mind for that possibility, which comes off as negativity, but then you're still happy when you're wrong. It's a defense mechanism, or coping mechanism as Packy would say. If the Vikings do in fact crap the bed, you get that little satisfaction of being right, and if they don't, who cares, they won lol. At the end of the day, we just want to be proven wrong. Prove us wrong Vikings, that's all we ask. We dare you.
