Dude. The ball is out of the QBs hands and already up the field. The defender isn't even in arm's reach. There is plenty time for the defender to slow down, pull up, wrap up the QB or give him a nice hard push. All acceptable and legal. The defender made a conscious decision to not do any of those and instead chose to drive his entire weight onto the shoulder of the QB. It doesn't matter who the QB is - Aaron Rodgers, Kirk Cousins, Tom Brady, Paxton Lynch or Minnie Mouse. That's a penalty 10/10 times. It's those kind of head hunting plays that have the game going soft so you can't tackle hard any more. Pretty soon you won't even be able to break wind in the QBs or WRs direction.

But hey did you see the no call facemask/touching the QBs head? I thought Aaron alwaaaaaaaays gets babied with the calls? Or how about a DLmen being called for holding against an OLmen while the ball is live on a fumble? In my entire life I have never seen a call like that...every player on GBs OL was called for at least 1 hold last night but please - tell me more how GB is just favored by the refs so much. :)

The ball was long gone. Aka no longer a runner. Also, he could have simply gave him a hard shove. He absolutely did not need to tackle and/or land on him. That's the point. He wasn't even within arms reach and the ball is already up the field. I don't care who the QB is that's a late hit man.

Edit: Regarding Cam - I remember an interview where someone said they have a hard time giving him those calls because he's BIGGER than most of the people trying to tackle him. I'll see if I can dig up a link to that. I thought that was ridiculous. I've also seen clips of refs telling Cam he "hasn't been in the league long enough to get the flag" or "he's too young." Seen many of those with quite a few players actually. As I alluded to earlier in the thread - I am 100% convinced Vegas has a say in how some games and/or calls go.

Apparently we remember things differently.

Perhaps Packers fans have been looking at the slow-mo replays too often? Look at the live version of the play, when exactly did Barr have time to slow down? And as Funky pointed out, Rodgers and other QB's like to pump-fake defenders to get them to leave their feet, so we're supposed to penalize Barr for not falling for what could have been a pump-fake, like Rodgers tried to do to Hicks last night?

Packers fans are also overlooking the fact that Rodgers does in fact try to lure defenders into late hates too, again as Funky pointed out. He seems to do so more often than other QB's. Rodgers knows he's a league darling and will get the benefit of those kind of calls. As Al Michaels correctly pointed out last night and damn near fought Terry McAuley over in the booth lol. So it's difficult for me to feel sorry for him when it leads to an injury. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

And point #7, Packers fans have no right to complain about late hits or cheap shots when they've had the worst offender in that department that past 10 years. A guy going by the name Clay Matthews. Haven't heard any of you complaining about his shenanigans. It's all good if the league doesn't say it's illegal right? Just like the Barr hit. Smells like karma. *whistle*

That was avoidable and unnecessary. Vikings fans blame the Packers for the new rule but the new rule is Barr's fault. If Barr continues flying to the left and doesn't come back to throw his weight into Rodgers that injury and that rule never happens. Barr didn't do it to injure him but he did take the opportunity to make it a worse hit than it had to be. If it was 1967 nobody would care, but it was 2017 and a dumb thing to do in 2017 when everyone knows the NFL is protecting QBs more and more.

Pause the video at 4 seconds. The ball is long gone, up the field and you can literally see there is a good yard or more of space between Barr and Aaron. That's a minimum of 3 feet. More than enough time to slow up, wrap him up, or give him a hard shove. These are ELITE athletes that train their quick twitch muscles and reactions to be able to decelerate, react, change direction and then accelerate in an instant. No excuse.

I believe the pump fakes are an effort to make the defender slow down or jump/leave his feet so he can escape and you know...avoid that big 250-300lb guy landing on him. There isn't a QB in the league that wants to be hit late or even at all really. That is just preposterous to think such a thing.

As for Clay - he has been flagged multiple times for stupid late hits. The one on Mitch last year really sticks out. I could dig up a plethora of posts across multiple sites where GB fans are not only crucifying Clay for such stupidity potentially costing us games, but also calling for him to be off the team. Not to be on a high horse, but we don't like dirty players or players with bad attitudes in GB and they get quickly ousted. Can you say the same about Vikings fans? It's one thing to cheer against your rival - it's an entirely other to cheer for situations that ruin the integrity of the game.

If Rodgers doesn't suffer from Romo Syndrome, this play would have been forgotten about on the very next play, just like the 1000 of hits that happen after the whistle where nobody gets hurt. It's like when a receiver drops the ball and everyone crucifies him for taking his eyes off of it before catching it. Every receiver does that on every reception, but we only notice it when things go wrong.

The difference - Foles was releasing the ball right as he was hit. Aaron had already got rid of the ball, it was already up the field and there was AT LEAST 3 feet between Barr and Aaron BEFORE even initiating contact.

Let me give you an example of the difference. 2009 NFC Championship game - refs swallow whistles and allow Favre to be cheap-shotted multiple times. After the game is over - Saints player is fined for two hits on Favre (thus, admitting it was illegal) and eventually the whole franchise is harshly punished for Bounty-Gate. Don't believe me? Until you can come up with examples like that, that are real and not just your opinion, I don't think you have a leg to stand on...

When did anyone get fined for barely touching Rodgers?

I dont believe at all believe Barr's hit was dirty, but you cant honestly expect anyone to just take your declaration that the QB of our biggest rival gets special treatment at face value.

Honestly? I think all the top QBs get sensitive treatment, but Rodgers gets slightly less then more immobile guys like Brady, Brees, Peyton etc.

Not to mention, while Barr's hit was not dirty, if it had been, not getting fined doesnt really mean anything. If the rules were reversed and a GB hit our QB in a way that you construed dirty, you know damn well him not getting fined would only deepen your accusation that GB gets referential treatment.
