Sloter To Move On To ... ???

That is a valid point. Preseason doesn't mean much.

On the other hand, I look for things like how a quarterback sets up, reads, and fires. I look for where he puts the ball and how he moves in the pocket under pressure. Sloter did all of those things better than Mannion or whoever, but Sloter always ended up third string. The Vikings had opportunities to play Sloter against better competition, but they didn't. Why?

Mannion played poorly in preseason and in almost every real game action he has faced in the NFL. What did the Vikings see in him? Are the two college quarterbacks they have on their roster now any better? We don't know, but the Vikings are asking for trouble if Cousins goes down because there is absolutely no NFL experience behind him on the depth chart.

Yeah, he must be, Gruden was raving about his preseason play a month or two ago, and now he's gone. This is the second time he's been cut in the spring, which is a very bad sign for a guy on a minimum deal. No team has filled their 90 man roster yet and you can't even secure a spot as a camp body?

Elway liked him so much he put him on waivers after his first preseason. Sloter has been part of 6 NFL organizations in 4 1/2 years. Not saying I'd be opposed to bringing him in but would rather draft a mid round QB & have Browning/Stanley battle for QB #3. Actually the last few years I think Zimmer has only had 2 QBs on the active roster and kept the #3 on the PS. I think Browning is out of PS time so it'll probably be Cousins-Rookie then Stanley on the PS

No idea how I even came across this last night, but I did. Had to share. 



Start at around 3:35 to miss ads and some small talk, but, there is some good stuff here. First of all, I now know who Reignman is IRL. He clearly is this podcast guy in love with Sloter here. JK. lol. But seriously, Sloter talks about his preseason stats, just kind of having the "it factor" under the lights, just wanting a shot, the draft status of QBs around the league (first-rounders getting a million chances versus late-rounders and UDFAs basically getting ignored), etc. I'm only to the 17-minute mark, but so far, good stuff. Worth the listen for the Sloter peeps! 

Basically what I've been saying the whole time. These teams keep busting on high draft picks and missing on hidden gems but people still believe they know what they're doing because they get paid a lot of money lol. The truth is, it's about their own job security. You can afford to miss on several high round prospects, but if you start taking chances on unknowns and miss there, you're not going to have a job long.

The NFL needs a developmental league to avoid this problem. A lot more hidden gems would be found without anyone having to put their neck on the line. Right now all we have is training camp/practice, and as we've seen with Sloter, it's a lousy way to uncover talent, especially if you're an idiot like Spielman/Zimmer who put all their money on practice and not what these players show in actual games. The most baffling question Spielman as have uttered was to Sloter, "do you have a switch or something?" ... which means Spielman recognizes how good Sloter was in the preseason, but didn't understand why he wasn't so good in practice. Those are some pretty messed priorities and explain nicely why Spielman's trophy case is empty.


Lol Sloter is popular? Ummm what? And no substance eh? So chalk you up as another guy who doesn't have his optic nerves securely fastened to his visual cortex? There must be something in the water in Minnesota. Let me know which preseason game you watched where Sloter had no substance because I must have missed it, or are you just parroting what everyone else has been saying? You must be if you're comparing him to Tebow. Sloter is the antithesis of Tebow. He had all the hype and popularity, was a high draft prospect, and got plenty of opportunities to prove himself, but he didn't have the talent ... which is why he didn't last long. Meanwhile, Sloter showed a lot of talent and potential in the limited time he was given, but he lacks the hype, popularity, draft status, and was never given the opportunity to prove himself at the next level.
