Yes, yes it does.
There it is, the cold hard evidence. I don't expect you to know what any of those numbers mean because I barely do. Are they percentages, or rates, or odds? Yes! All I know is all the big numbers are at the top with all the winners, so I guess that's good or something.
So not only did I just blow Betterridge's mind, I've proven that preseason might kinda matter. Sure, there are some outliers that people like to point to, like how the Lions and Browns both went 4-0 in the preseason before their 0-16 regular season campaigns. In fact, it's almost cruel how the Lions teased their fans in the preseason that year before crushing them with the most humiliating thing possible. Not only were they 4-0 in the preseason, but they only gave up an average of 8 PPG in those 4 games. Then they gave up 32 PPG in the regular season. To put that another way, basically in every singe regular season game, they gave up the same amount of points as they did in the entire preseason xD.
On the flip side, the 2005 Colts went 0-5 in the preseason before starting 13-0 in the regular season and finishing 14-2. People quickly forget how they were eliminated in the division round however which is almost the same as not making the playoffs. And for the record, the Patriots went 2-2 before going 16-0 in 2007. Oh and lost the Super Bowl. They probably would have won had they gone 4-0. And they say BB is smart. 2-2 teams are like the 2nd worst at winning Super Bowls.
Only 2 teams have made it to the Super Bowl after going 0-fer the preseason, and both lost, the 1990 Bills and 2000 Giants. Only 4 made it to the conference championship, 10 won the division, 13 made the playoffs, and 53 finished .500 or worse out of the 70 total teams that went 0-fer since 1983.
Meanwhile, out of the 69 teams that have gone undefeated in the preseason, 4 won the Super Bowl (1990 NYG, 2000 BAL, 2003 NEP, and 2013 SEA), and 2 others made it to the Bowl (1997 GRB and 2003 CAR). Well that's not fair, NEP and CAR had to play each other in 2003 so someone had to lose. 12 teams made it to the conference championship, 16 won divisions, 32 made the playoffs, 45 finished .500 or better, and a partridges in a pear tree.
So good news for the Ravens, Bills, and Giants who all just finished 4-0, and bad news for the Lions and Jaguars who went 0-4.
And kudos to Zim for blowing that 17 point lead with 4 minutes to go last night. It was a brilliant move and I'm feeling better about it already. It's like the guy is playing 5D chess out there. That bed sh*tting just improved the Vikings chances of winning the division as opposed to only getting in as a wildcard team. He did slightly hurt our chances of winning a Super Bowl however. Oh and that .537 winning percentage for teams that go 3-1? It's the equivalent of an 8-7-1 regular season BTW. It's almost a sign.
Speaking of the Vikings, the '98 squad had the most successful preseason/regular season combination of any team since 1983. They went 19-1 and scored a record 685 points. Pfff don't tell me preseason doesn't matter. They scored over 32 PPG that preseason, so we should have saw it coming.
Do you know what other preseason records the Vikings hold? They had the highest PPG avg at 35 in 1992 and also the the lowest PPG avg allowed at 1.50 which also came in 1992. That was a magical preseason. They outscored their opponents 140-6 in 4 games. Didn't give up a single TD. We followed that up by going ... lets see here .... ahhh it's not important what we did in the regular season that year. Nobody cares that we went 11-5 and the Redskins exacted their revenge by eliminating us in the wildcard round at the dome while holding us to under 20 minutes of time of possession. Unimportant. I mean just look at these scores. That's all that matters. Greatest preseason ever.
Look at all those glorious goose eggs. That was back when starters played all 60 minutes and took the games seriously, but don't take my word for it because I don't know if that's true or not. Seems true though and my gut is rarely wrong. And do you know how many teams have scored 56 points in a preseason game? Well the Packers scored 59 that one time in 2010, but it was preseason so it doesn't count, so nobody else has done it.
Is Betteridge's Law true? Take that Ian.

Betteridge's law of headlines is an adage that states: "Any headline that ends in a question mark can be answered by the word no".
