I was searching for something and stumbled upon this article that was written at the completion of the 2018 season.Think it's well written and nails the issues with Zimmer.

A notable team that held off firing their head coach is the Minnesota Vikings. Mike Zimmer saw his once vaunted Vikings team in 2017 become a shell of themselves in 2018. The Vikings missed the playoffs with an underachieving record of 8-7-1.

It wasn’t supposed to be this way considering their upgrade at quarterback. Kirk Cousins and the offense just never saw any consistency this season. From a new quarterback to a new offensive coordinator in John DeFilippo, it kind of makes sense as to why the Vikings never hit their stride this season.

If you watched the game, then you’d have thought it was the Bears who needed to win to get in. Bears head coach Matt Nagy took Mike Zimmer to the woodshed. The Vikings came out flat and were completely out-coached. Considering the season in its entirety, this poor season falls on the head coach.

Not only did Mike Zimmer not keep it together, but he was meddling with forces out of his comfort zone. He’s a defensive minded coach, yet he wants his hands all over the offense.

Every year it’s the same story with Zimmer. He throws his offensive coordinator under the bus in postgame pressers and acts like it’s normal. It’s no wonder they couldn’t attract any legit offensive coordinator.

Do you think Rick decides to fire these guys mid-season all on his own? I think more likely Mike is the problem with why so many OC's fail here.

I have heard Mike throw his offesense under the bus. 2016 and 2018 were just as much about the defense breaking down as offense yet he did throw them under. We have not been a truly lockdown defense winning team since 2015.

Mike will get his 7th season. He earned it this year. We will see if he can maintain any kind of momentum. He is yet to make back to back playoffs. Even Brad did that.
I believe everyone with the team knows what's on the line next year. The problem I see is this team has acted like it's been in desperation mode since 2016. Bad trades, over paying now we are capped out and don't have a choice but try a new plan. We are going to lose players. It's going to be a soft rebuild. The problem is we weren't all that successful with all the high priced players. I'm not sure if we will with lower cost 3rd tier FA's and rookies.
That is what we are facing in the all important must win 2020 season.

If being a Viking fan was easy ~ everyone would do it.

Any time one of them has ONE GOOD YEAR they get a promotion! That's not failure, but, ya know, narrative. This "Zimmer ruins his OCs" is a sexy one. How have all of his OCs done since moving on? Oh that's right, not long ago Turner, Shurmur, and DeFilippo were all JOBLESS. I bet that was Zimmer's fault, too.

Yeah I doubt you should be the spokesperson as to why it's not on Zimmer since he can do no wrong in your eyes.

It's amazing to me Zimmer nor Spielman can do no wrong yet they are the two making all the decisions yet here we are sucking a$$ yet again. You have to be totally immune to reality to not see any alignment of falling squarely at the feet of either of the two in charge.

Pretty ironic only one side of the team is so called stable and the other has been an utter turnstile.

Just maybe the common denominator is Zimmer and the control he wants. You would think with all the talent we have OC would be knocking the door off the hinges to coach here yet we cant get anyone to stick or be successful. Zimmer wants control yet acts like he does nothing to influence what happens on game day.

Its pretty damn obvious what is going on here. Zimmer has no idea how to or what to hire.

So who is to blame. You have 2 choices.

Anyway, ONE OC was fired. Just one. DeFilippo. And the ONLY mistake Zimmer made there was not firing him sooner. He was also fired after one season in Jacksonville. But Zimmer is the problem, right?

It's both dependent on what side of his mouth he is speaking out of. That is Zimmer.

If I tell you that you can be the OC then hire you then tell you this is what I expect and you have to stay in the guideline I set. The same game plans under multiple systems and philosophies yet same look year after year. Run run pass.

So aging its 2 people you can blame who's it going to be. Zimmer Spielman or both? Don't shy away from answering the question.

Norv Turner was the poster boy for running the ball on every 1st down, and I remember nothing about Zimmer telling him to run the ball more. The primary problem in those 2 losses was that Norv had Bradford take 7 step drops behind a garbage O-line, which resulted in continuous sacks and tons of pressure on Bradford. Shurmur fixed this by making Bradford take quick dropbacks and designed plays to be played much faster.

I also don't remember Zimmer publicly telling Shurmur to run the ball more even once...

Norv was called a resignation but we know that was a bargained press release type deal.
He did not leave on totally good terms that much we know. So if you want to be all technical your right we wasn't fired. He just would have been if he didn't agree to quit.

Come on now. Every damn time Zimmer is asked about offense it's taking care of the ball and running it and top. He hated Case because he was a risk taker that created and extended plays.

Did you read the quotes from articles I just shared?

Zimmer was shocked and emotional over it. But we're expected to believe he was on the verge of firing him? Again, it doesn't add up.

Also, Zimmer wasn't wrong for wanting better for his QB and offense. He was absolutely right. That should be obvious. So I don't understand how this is viewed as a negative, but it is, because of this "Zimmer ruins his OCs narrative."

Look, there are legitimate reasons to be concerned with Zimmer. I'll admit to that. But the parroting of the ridiculous and illogical narratives is what gets me. If y'all don't like him, then just say that. No need to repeat emotional nonsense over and over and over as fact.
