Dude, I think you're overreacting to a 5th round pick.

1st off, oustide of Diggs we've gotten 10 starts out of 5th round picks over the last 10 years. It's not exactly a lot of capital.

2nd, the whole point of draft picks is to get players. Guess what we got for the 5th round pick? A PLAYER! So how is that a waste?

3rd, 5th round picks are very easy to restock. SpielGod just has to trade back 5 spots in the third round a BOOM, there's a new 5th round pick.

Reignman, first I never used the word racist or racism.  Anyone who uses those words are blaming someone else for their problems.  Blacks or people of color(like myself) have the SAME opportunity to live great lives if they so choose.  But the reality is we still like to point out that someone in this country for example is an African-American versus just a regular American(I guess) - meaning one is black and the other is not.  I would like for that part(African-American) be taken out of our lingo.  I like what DieHardTwinsFan said about this subject.  Honestly if I was hanging out with my friends like old high school friends or current friends and we started talking about VedVik, I would eventually say "he's from Norway but he's black".   Then the convo would continue along the lines of "I didn't even know they had black people in Norway . . . " or something along those lines and have fun with it for a few then go on to something else.  Again I'm not sure where I was going with my comment but we unconsciously (like DieHard said) always seem to be bias when it comes to color.  That being said, I'd like to invite to do a split screen video podcast with me so we can continue our debate.

Uh, I'll disagree with the statement "3rd round picks are very easy to restock". 3rd rounders can be pricey - heck, Antonio Brown cost a 3rd round pick! Obviously he's got plenty of baggage, but teams don't just pull 3rd rounders out of nowhere like they do 6th-7th round picks.

Are you assuming I'm a grown man?! I kid, and I wouldn't call it "egregious", but I believe my point stands that NFL teams don't need to spend draft capital on punters. There are plenty of good UDFA punters in most draft classes, and you could sign a free agent punter and have a minimal drop-off compared with your average punter. But that also leads me to believe that Vedvik is here because the Vikings want him as a kicker, which still isn't great for a 5th round pick, but it would be much better value than getting a punter for that price.

What would we debate about? I completely agree with everything you said in your original post and now this one lol. Like you and your friends, when you heard Norwegian and black, it sparked a conversation because it's unusual. Not because Norway is racist, but because it's associated with being predominately white, because that's where African migrants slowly evolved into white people over 10's of thousands of years because that latitude receives less sun than Africa which actually makes all the melanin harmful to ones health and thus makes it more difficult to survive to reproductive age. Lighter skin was naturally selected for because it absorbs more nutrients from the sun like vitamin D, which is very important when you receive less of it.

Over the course of 10k, maybe 100k years, you end up with pale ass white people in places far north like Norway, where my ancestors are from lol. Without the light skin mutation, ancient humans never would have survived at that latitude. Just like Nigeria is predominately black and always has been because it receives too much sun, and all the melanin helps protect the skin from what would be a deadly overdose of UV radiation. Melanin being a beneficial mutation when our distant ancestors first climbed out of the trees and started losing all that fur, which had to be replaced by something to protect the exposed skin from the sun, or we would have gone extinct. The fur hindered cooling on the open plains, so it had to be shed. Well more correctly, members with less fur and darker skin were naturally selected for until we were almost completely hairless and dark xD. Members with more fur and light skin didn't do so well and thus weren't naturally selected for.

Evolution doesn't work with a plan in mind, random mutations happen, some are beneficial and some are harmful, so the strong survive and pass along their stronger genes, while the weak don't. It's life. Without the necessary mutation, an animal just can't survive in a particular environment, and will go extinct. Every creature you see today is a product of billions of years of evolution. Some are far more advanced than others because without the necessary environmental pressures, a random mutation might not be beneficial nor harmful so there's nothing to naturally select for, the organism won't change much.

But anyway, along with trying to be a smartass, I tend to go on tangents and ramble sometimes too xD. I wasn't trying to criticize you for pointing out the fact that Vedvik was black, I was agreeing with you. It's not racist when a particular area is associated with a particular race, it's natural. Dark skin people who live in northern climates are at more risk for conditions like rickets because their skin absorbs less vitamin D from the sun. They have to make up the difference via diet or supplements. And the UV radiation is dangerous for light skin people who live closer to the equator without the proper protection. Our modern technology has minimized the dangers however, shelter, more nutritious food, sun screen, and obviously clothing.

This is a map based on the average global skin pigmentation. Is it just a coincidence that it lines up perfectly with sun exposure xD?
