I fully understand. Kirk has the only fully guaranteed contract in the NFL. What your thinking is base salary not guaranteed salary. Like what Brees has done is taken unguaranteed money and pushed it to fully guaranteed. That is normal. It's not normal to take away guaranteed nor would the NFL allow it if some agent was actually dumb enough to accept that. Kirk has no insensitive to reduce money that is exactly why he has s fully guaranteed contract that also includes no trade clause and no franchise tag clause. If he won't accept that he sure isn't going to take less now. He will be getting paid again in 2021 so he has no reason to push money back nor sign an extension. If he won't take a 1 yr tag that would be worth 30 to 40 million he sure won't do what you suggest. He made sure his new contract ends with the new cba and he can do as he wants in terms of his next contract that will include yet another large signing bonus.

For the 5 millionth time... No money would be taken away or added. It would be converted to a signing bonus in with a second year that auto voids. He still gets his money. He gets it now instead of later. Signing bonuses automatically prorate across the length of the deal. All other guarantees remain. It spreads the cap hit out over a second year and immediately hits the 2021 cap the moment the year voids. That's all it does.

Teams do this type of thing from time to time. All it does is push some of the hit out till 2021. Is it smart? That's a different question. But stop acting like KC will lose money. He wouldn't lose a cent. If anything, he gets time value of money on his side, because whatever percentage of his base that gets converted to a signing bonus he gets right away instead of once the games start playing. He's still an unrestricted FA in 2021... It's a cap game play only.

Your forgetting one important detail.It's the final year of the CBA and the rules are different for extensions to prevent teams from shifting money down the road.The Vikings will have to account for any void years on the 2020 cap.

That goes to my other point on whether it's smart or not. It's not an uncapped year, so I don't think you're in a penalty state like Dallas was during the last CBA. 

Green Bay just did something very similar with Rodgers guaranteed bonus for next year to move it to spread it out. It does happen. There's zero risk to the player either way. I'm not saying it should, but you keep arguing that he's not going to give up guaranteed money... except that he isn't giving up any guaranteed money. Re-read your posts. 

You've argued that he made sure that his "contract ends with a new CBA." That doesn't change in this scenario.

You've argued that he's giving up guaranteed money. He isn't. 

You've argued that he won't give up the chance for a guaranteed contract in 2021. That doesn't change either.

Now you're saying he doesn't have an incentive to do it... He doesn't need one. It's a help the team type thing that has no affect on his compensation. All that happens is that he gets a portion of his guaranteed contract sooner. He's still a FA in 2021. He still gets all of his money. He's not at risk to lose a thing. His incentive is that we free up 10-15M in cap money that can be used to get an impact FA, which I'd add is something that I'm sure KC is smart enough to realize makes him more valuable in 2021 as well.
