Lester Bagley, the Vikings’ vice president of public affairs, said the Twin Cities remain in the mix to host an NFL draft. He also said there is interest in hosting the first game of the NFL season on a Thursday night, along with an NFL owners meeting.
Yes, the Twin Cities officials also want to have another Super Bowl here. But that would be years away, if it were to happen at all.
“We have expressed an interest in another Super Bowl, and we did so almost immediately after delivering such a successful Super Bowl,” Bagley said. “We’re also realistic we just hosted the Super Bowl and they’ve got new stadiums coming on line in Los Angeles, Las Vegas.
“The league has made it clear there’s more of a resort-city preference for the Super Bowl, and that’s why it’s more realistic that we can get other events that they want to rotate through the country.”

Bagley told the Pioneer Press in May 2017 that Twin Cities officials applied in October 2016 to host the NFL draft in 2022 or 2023. He now says the earliest possible date Minnesota figures to be considered to host the draft is 2023, and it could be later than that.
“I think it’s more likely 2023, ’24, ’25, in that range,” he said.
