I like how detailed diehard was in his plan, and I will try to do the same.
Heading into 2019, thanks to Ben Goessling's math, we have $11 million in cap space before any restructures/releases.
What do we need? By order of importance...
OL: 2 OL that can be instant starters, and better quality depth. They can look for 2 starting guards, or 1 guard 1 center and shuffle Elflien to guard.
TE: In order to create additional cap space, I'm releasing Rudolph in my plan. It's possible he restructures, but I have no idea how little he would take to remain with the team.
LB: Anthony Barr walks for a big contract that we can no longer afford. And I'm okay with that.
DT: Sheldon Richardson IMO isn't worth the money he'll command on the open market. Linval hungry is locked in long term, so he needs a new partner in crime.
WR: If they don't believe in Zylstra or Beebe's ability to take over #3 WR they'll need to look outside of the organization. We can't have Treadwell see the field anymore.
CB: Xavier is getting up there in age, and Waynes is on the last year of his contract. The next wave is here IMO, with Hughes and Hill.
Cuts:
Sendejo ($5.5 million)
Remmers ($4 million)
Rudolph ($7.625 million)
Griffen ($10.7 million)
TOTAL CAP SPACE: $38.825 million
Phew, now we have something to work with. As much as I want to kick Treadwell to the curb, I don't have enough cap space to take the $3 million hit.
Free agents:
I'm not going to claim to know what these players will get. I'm going to give a range, where the top number is my walk away price.
SS Anthony Harris ($3-5 million): He played outstanding after taking over the role from Sendejo. Last season the safety market was incredibly slow, and I'm hoping that will still be the case. I'd like to see a contract similar to what Sendejo got from the Vikes. Team friendly at the beginning to prove it wasn't a fluke.
P Matt Wile ($1-2 million): I wasn't sure why they chose him over our last punter who I can't remember his name now. Turned out to be a good decision.
OG Quinton Spain ($5-8 million): PFF rated him 61.8 FWIW. He's entering his age 28 season and comes from TEN that loves to run the ball.
OG AJ Cann ($5-8 million): PFF rated him 61 FWIW. Entering his age 27 season and comes from JAX who also loves to run the ball.
DE Mario Edwards ($2-3 million): Still very young entering his age 25 season. Hasn't put it together yet. I take the gamble Zimmer unlocks something in him. Big enough at 6'3" 280 to move inside too.
TE Tyler Eifert ($3-5 million): Familiar with Zimmer during his time in Cincinnati. Explosive talent but hasn't stayed healthy. I gamble on him bouncing back on a make good 1 year deal.
K Robbie Gould ($2-3 million): It doesn't matter who we sign. Somehow they're going to f*ck up.
TOTAL FREE AGENT SIGNINGS: $29 million sum of the walk away prices.
That leaves us $9 million and change to save for the draft...
DRAFT: It's way too early to look into this now.
TRADE POTENTIAL:
Xavier Rhodes: Entering his age 29 season, and CBs age terribly once they turn 30. A long shot, but I'd explore this option ASAP.
Trae Waynes: 5th year option player. Not sure he's a #1 CB. I'd try to recoup some lost draft picks and hand over the reigns to Hill/Hughes.
Harrison Smith: This one hurts because I love watching him play. But the same rule applies to all DBs... They age rapidly once they hit 30, and Harry the Hitman turns 30 in February.
Thoughts?
