Begs the question, what haven't they been able to get because of any of the contracts that have been signed or restructured?
Who should the Vikings have signed instead resigning of Anthony Barr? Instead of extending Thielen and Rudolph?
What pieces do you want them to acquire? They drafted a center with their first pick, the third year in a row one of the first two picks has been devoted to the OL. The only outside free agent signing of note was Josh Kline-another OL.
Where or what other moves would you suggest?
Whether Anthony Barr, Adam Thielen, or Kyle Rudolph would be the best, or 53rd best player on any other team is a useless argument. WE DO KNOW, FOR A FACT, that Anthony Barr could have made more leaving than staying. Adam Thielen has been VASTLY underpaid for his production the last few years. And seeing as how NO ONE on the team has more receiving TDs than Kyle Rudolph since 2015-I am not sure how much more you are expecting. All of those facts, and more, underscore their importance to the Minnesota Vikings. So, what is your alternative?
Rudolph like Barr are game changers. The team doesn't win or lose anymore games whether they're on the field or not. Again, I would have given one of the other TEs a chance. I have faith that Irv Smith JR will take Rudolph's spot as the primary TE before his contract is up. Yeah he caught the most TDs I guess on offense but he didn't carry the offense. The offense was still bad whether he was on the field or not. He's not like an Adrian Peterson. Peterson in his prime, in seasons when we didn't have an elite QB or WR still gave us the best chance to win if he was on the field. Rudolph is not that type of player. He's non existent most of the time and comes up with a few spectacular plays every now and then. But he isn't dominating every week. Thielen and Diggs are the only two carrying the offense right now. Without one of them, it does actually hurt the offense.
But you know what this team's problem is? This team has been in win now mode for the past 10 years. Since Favre. Rather than facing the fact that for the past several years, we did not have a championship caliber roster. We should've just kept building. Not build through the draft here but then try to spend on FA players who couldn't get it done anymore on teams they were previously on. McNabb, Matt Cassell, Josh Freeman, Matt Boone, Andre Smith, etc etc. The list goes on and on. Every this team lies to us thinking we are just 1 or 2 key players away from the super bowl. And it always turn out that we are lacking in more than just those one or two positions. This season all of our offensive groups need to step up. Only time will tell if we got it right this season. And getting it right would be atleast getting to the divisional or back to the conference championship.
Anyways, I do think the Kubiak signing might be the glue here. It's not like the offense isn't talented (minus the OL) and capable of developing players. They have had no identity and have not played well as a unit. Hopefully fixing the line allows the pass and run games to compliment each other. KC could have a monster year if that happens.
