None?!?! I remember a very important 2 possession lead that we lost in a home playoff game lol. We led Seattle 9-0. And if it weren't for a Minneapolis Miracle, it would have been 2. Technically that was a 3 possession game that would have been lost. Emphasizing just how important it is to build on a lead against a quality opponent. Hey I wonder if we'll face any quality opponents in the playoffs, or a Super Bowl? No? The league will let us play the Cardinals?
But lets just assume it's true for arguments sake. Wouldn't that be the best reason to try and acquire a 2 possession lead by the 4th quarter as often as possible? It's like holy sh*t, you mean if we win the turnover battle AND have a 2 possession lead, we guarantee victory? Ohhh I know, lets just play it safe and not try to have any of that. Cuz Vikings logic!!!!!! Because why insure your chances of winning by doing anything stupid like building on your lead? Nah it's not a concern that the Vikings stop trying because they usually squeak out a win anyway. Cuz that's fun. All the stress and feelings of deja vu. Good times!
So we can flip this question around. How many potential 2 possession leads could we have had entering the 4th quarter but didn't because we were content with our 1 possession lead and confident that the defense would hold it?
Also, how many 2 possession deficits have we won in the Zim era? Never mind the 4th quarter, at any point in the game, has Zimmer come back from a 2 possession deficit ever?
Zimmer has been here long enough to understand what heart breaking losses look like, so you'd think he'd try a little harder to pad the lead. Especially now that his defense isn't as great as it was.
Here's the difference between a championship caliber team and just another loser. The Vikings had a 17 point half time lead against the Saints in last years playoff and let the Saints right back in the game. The very next week the Vikings trailed by 17 at half time and the Eagles closed the f*cking door. Those 2 games sum up the Vikings perfectly. When they have a big lead, they let the other team claw their way back in it. When they're down big, they just quit. They don't know how to finish games period. Never have, and it's probably the biggest reason why the trophy case is still empty. This franchise needs to get over this Minnesota nice crap and needs to start learning how to step on throats. Run up the damn score and send a message.
