Raptorman and I were just discussing this yesterday. If the Bears have a good offseason, they could be really, really good within a year or two.
Yes, they'll have a lot of cap space- money does nothing if you don't spend it well. Same with draft picks- if you don't pick well, it doesn't matter how many picks you accumulate. Also, they're counting on Justin Fields becoming their guy going forward. All of those things are doable, sure...but every other team is doing the same thing.
On SiriusXM today, Pat Kirwin was talking that if it were him, every FA they pick up next spring will be under 26 and coming off their rookie contract. OK, sure.....but that's Roquan Smith and they just traded him away. Shouldn't he have been as much a foundational piece as Fields? Do they think they can find another Roquan in the draft? Good luck with that!
They're betting an awful lot on Fields turning into something I'm not sure he's capable of.
